In an inspiring effort to uplift education in rural areas, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has stepped up to modernize two government schools in Ramanagara District, Karnataka. This move reflects the company's long-standing commitment to improving educational infrastructure and creating opportunities for students in remote regions.
The handover of the newly modernized facilities took place with much excitement, attended by none other than Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister, Shri D. K. Shivakumar. It marked another milestone in TKM's ongoing efforts to enhance education through various projects, with these two schools becoming the latest beneficiaries.
A New Look for Schools in Ramanagara
The schools that transformed are the Government Higher Primary School (GHPS) Chakkare and GHPS Kodamballi. With hundreds of students attending these institutions, the modern facilities provided by TKM will undoubtedly make a significant difference in their learning experience.
GHPS Chakkare, which serves 424 students from grades I to VII, now boasts new classrooms, a staff room, a kitchen, a science lab, a computer room, a sports room, and separate toilets for boys and girls. Fully furnished with benches, desks, chairs, tables, and library racks, the school offers a much more comfortable and engaging environment for its students.
Meanwhile, GHPS Kodamballi, serving 765 students from grades I to X, received similar upgrades. Covering a larger area of 20,178 square feet, this school is now better equipped to support its growing student population.
The total cost of these modernization projects was no small feat either. The GHPS Chakkare project came to Rs. 4.35 crores, while the GHPS Kodamballi renovation cost Rs. 5.14 crores. Both projects were carefully designed to meet the specific needs of each school and its students.
Why It Matters?
For TKM, this initiative goes beyond just building walls and furnishing classrooms. It’s about creating an environment that nurtures curiosity, fosters learning, and equips students with the skills they need to succeed in life.
Sudeep Dalvi, Senior Vice President and Chief Communication Officer of TKM, expressed the company’s vision clearly during the handover ceremony. He emphasized that education is the key to a prosperous and progressive community. By supporting rural schools, TKM hopes to contribute to the overall growth of the state and nation, ensuring that every child, regardless of where they live, gets access to quality education.
Dalvi further added that TKM's work in Ramanagara is a collaborative effort with local communities. They are not just building classrooms; they are building futures. This approach ensures that the impact of their work goes beyond education, fostering growth and development across the board.
A History of Commitment to CSR
This isn’t TKM’s first venture into educational development. Since 2001, the company has integrated Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) into its business model, focusing on initiatives that are scalable and sustainable. These projects range from education to environment, hygiene, health, road safety, and skill development.
In addition to improving school infrastructure, TKM is also actively involved in other programs like the Toyota Anganwadi Program (TADP). This program focuses on enhancing early childhood education centers (Anganwadis) by improving the skills of teachers and promoting hygiene practices. Since 2023, TKM has worked on 150 Anganwadi centers in the Ramanagara district, developing 30 centers already.
Through such programs, TKM aims to promote inclusive education, especially for children with special needs, ensuring that they too have access to modern educational tools and methods. In the last financial year alone, TKM's initiatives impacted over 12,000 students, with the total number of beneficiaries reaching 132,980 since the start of the program.
A Lasting Impact
In addition to its work with schools and Anganwadis, TKM has reintroduced its flagship program, A Behavioural Change Demonstration (ABCD), which teaches students valuable life skills. In the 2024-25 academic year, the ABCD program was implemented in 550 schools, benefitting 28,000 students.
This comprehensive approach to education covering everything from infrastructure to behavioral skills demonstrates TKM’s dedication to making a real, lasting difference in the communities they serve.
Overall, Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s efforts in Ramanagara are a shining example of how a company can contribute to social progress. By modernizing schools and enhancing learning environments, TKM is helping to create a better future for thousands of students.
As these children grow up in well-equipped schools, with access to quality education and the tools they need to succeed, they will become the leaders and innovators of tomorrow. And in doing so, TKM’s commitment to education will leave a lasting impact, not just on the students, but on the entire community.
With their ongoing projects and plans, it’s clear that TKM’s vision for education is one of inclusivity, sustainability, and progress. And as they continue to build more enriching environments for students, they are also building a brighter future for us all.
