An almost undisguised sighting of the eagerly anticipated Tata Sierra suggests that it is ready for launch. Finishing in a bright yellow hue reminiscent of its Auto Expo concept, the SUV showcases a strong and modern style while maintaining the allure of the original Sierra. It is anticipated that the model being viewed will be the electric model, which will make its debut before the internal combustion engine (ICE) models.
Launch schedule and market positioning
ICE to follow after EV
It is anticipated that the electric Sierra (Sierra EV) will make its debut in India around Diwali in 2025.
The first quarter of 2026 is when the gasoline and diesel (ICE) variants are expected to be released, or potentially at the end of 2025.
Cost and market
Expected prices for the models fall between ₹12.5 lakh and ₹21 lakh (ex-showroom, India), putting them in the premium compact/midsize SUV market.
In the brand's SUV lineup, the Sierra sits between the Tata Harrier and the Tata Curvv.
Powertrain Choices and Platform
With a real-world range of roughly 500 km and an anticipated 65–75 kWh battery pack, the Sierra EV will be built on Tata's Acti.EV Gen 2 platform.
In order to enable all-wheel drive, high-end models could use two motors. With a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox, the ICE range will feature Tata's new 1.2-liter and 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engines as well as perhaps a 1.5-liter diesel unit.
Timeline and Cost of Launch
The Sierra EV will be introduced by Tata in 2025, around Diwali, according to several reports. The gasoline and diesel versions will follow in early 2026. The ICE variants are estimated to cost between ₹12.5 lakh and ₹21 lakh (ex-showroom), placing the Sierra in the middle of Tata's SUV lineup between the Harrier and Curvv.
Combining Tradition and Innovation
By bringing the Sierra back to life, Tata Motors hopes to arouse nostalgia while updating it for contemporary consumers. The five-door SUV maintains the basic design language of the original while adding modern amenities, including numerous seating arrangements, ventilated seats, ADAS, and a panoramic sunroof.
The return of the Sierra also supports Tata's electrification drive and its objective of launching seven new nameplates by 2030.
