Tata's electric SUV arrives seven months after the ICE Sierra and takes on rivals like the Creta Electric and BE 6
Battery options span 63kWh and 75kWh, with the larger pack also offering a dual motor AWD setup
Tata Motors has launched the Sierra EV in India at a starting price of Rs 18.79 lakh, ex-showroom.
The electric SUV arrives just over seven months after the combustion powered Sierra and is positioned as a more direct rival to the Mahindra BE 6, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Hyundai Creta Electric and MG ZS EV, taking over that role from the Curvv EV in Tata's line-up.
Battery And Range Options On The Sierra EV
Two Battery Packs With A Dual Motor AWD Variant
The Sierra EV rides on the same Acti.ev+ platform underpinning the Tata Harrier EV and borrows that model's TiDAL E&E architecture. Buyers get a choice of 63kWh and 75kWh battery packs.
Both come with a single rear mounted motor as standard, while the larger 75kWh pack can also be paired with a dual motor setup delivering all wheel drive and 504Nm of torque. With Boost Mode switched on, the AWD variant covers 0 to 100kph in a claimed 5.8 seconds.
The AWD version also brings genuine off-road ability through six terrain modes covering conditions from mud and gravel to rock crawling, along with a low speed cruise function and a 540 degree camera system that combines a 360 degree surround view with an underfloor display.
On range, Tata claims up to 665km from the 75kWh variants and 535km from the 63kWh versions, both figures certified under the MIDC cycle. A 120kW DC fast charger can add up to 263km of range in just 15 minutes, while a 20 to 80 percent charge takes roughly 26 minutes.
As with the rest of the brand's electric range, the Sierra EV carries a lifetime battery warranty, which in practical terms covers 15 years from the date of registration.
Exterior Design Changes On The Electric Sierra
Familiar Silhouette With Subtle EV Specific Tweaks
Visually, the Sierra EV sticks close to its petrol sibling. The front end drops the blacked out panel that runs between the headlamps and light bar on the ICE model, and it skips the raised Sierra lettering above the badge.
The front bumper also gets a fresh design with a noticeably larger dose of gloss black trim. Everything from the side profile to the rear end mirrors the standard Sierra, aside from EV specific badges and lettering, and ground clearance is rated at 205mm.
Cabin Layout And Equipment List
Same Practical Interior With A Long Features List
Step inside and the layout again mirrors the regular Sierra, save for a slightly different colour theme. Boot space stands at 622 litres when measured to the roofline, 450 litres up to the parcel shelf, and 1,257 litres with the rear bench folded down.
Depending on the variant chosen, the equipment list runs to a triple screen layout, ambient lighting, a 12 speaker JBL sound system, dual zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, a Boss mode function, a cabin air purifier, powered and ventilated front seats, a powered tailgate, Level 2 ADAS, connected car features, auto park assist, a head up display, a digital key, over the air updates and six airbags as standard. It also carries over the Harrier EV's summon mode and DrivePay in-car payment feature, along with vehicle to load and vehicle to vehicle functionality.
