Range Rover Electric Has Estimated 16000 Interested Buyers Before Its Launch

Range Rover Electric has estimated 16,000 interested buyers before its launch

The Range Rover Electric, set to hit the market later this year, has already sparked interest from over 16,000 potential buyers worldwide, as reported by the brand. The order books for this first-ever electric Range Rover opened in December 2023, providing a glimpse into the considerable demand for the upcoming electric SUV.

Built on the existing combustion engine platform, the Range Rover Electric aims to retain the iconic styling of its predecessor. Thomas Muller, the head of product engineering at JLR (formerly Jaguar Land Rover), claims that the electric variant will be the "quietest and most refined Range Rover ever." With an 800V architecture enabling ultra-fast charging, the EV is in the testing phase in locations such as Sweden and Dubai.

Performance

The electric Range Rover is expected to deliver comparable performance to its internal combustion engine counterpart, maintaining the renowned "go-anywhere" capability. Muller hints at towing, wading, and all-terrain capabilities that surpass other luxury electric SUVs, including the impressive ability to wade through water up to 850mm deep. Anticipated to feature a twin-motor setup for enhanced all-wheel-drive capabilities and torque vectoring, the electric SUV is poised to offer over 500 horsepower.

JLR has initiated on-road prototype testing in Sweden and Dubai, focusing on examining underfloor components, battery durability, and thermal performance. Production of the Range Rover Electric will take place at the Solihull plant alongside existing mild- and plug-in hybrid versions. Initially using batteries from a third-party supplier, the EV will later transition to packs produced in the new Somerset gigafactory planned by JLR's parent firm, Tata.

Competitors

Competing with models like the BMW iX and the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, the electric Range Rover is set to enter the market as a strong contender. While the visual details of the model are yet to be revealed, the significant interest from potential buyers signals a promising future for Range Rover's venture into electric vehicles.
