It features a futuristic design, a spacious and high-tech interior, and a powerful electric powertrain for swift, efficient performance. Emphasizing sustainability, it incorporates recycled materials and offers advanced driver assistance systems. The iX symbolizes BMW's blend of luxury, performance, and environmental responsibility.
BMW introduced its first electric SUV, the iX back in December 2021. It is offered in India in only one variant: xDrive40. Focused on making the change happen, BMW iX offers a high range of 425 km on a single charge, making it one of the highest-range offering electric cars in India.
It is ideal for someone looking for a high-range luxurious SUV with a plethora of features and performance capabilities. It offers a wide range of features, both convenience and safety. It also offers thrilling performance and an overall SUVish driving experience. Let's take a look at everything this all-electric SUV has to offer.
The latest model that is being sold in India was launched in December 2021. It is expected to get an update this year, i.e. 2023 but it is yet to be confirmed. BMX iX is offered in one variant only: xDrive40. This variant is a 5-seater variant.
The BMW iX is offered in 8 colour options: Alpine White, Mineral White, Sophisto Grey, Black Sapphire, Blue Ridge Mountain, Phytonic Blue, Storm Bay metallic, and Aventurine Red metallic.
BMW iX is being sold in India via CBU(Completely Built Unit) import and rivals the likes of Mercedes Benz EQC, Audi e-Tron, and Jaguar I-Pace. The first lot of the BMW iX was sold on the very first day of being launched. BMW iX is based on the company's CLAR platform that uses fibre and aluminium (most of the aluminium used is recycled). It gets a range of 425 km. Globally, a higher-spec xDrive 50 variant is also sold which has a range of 611 km.
BMW iX is a sharp-looking electric SUV with angular design cues and several EV-specific bits that set iX apart from the IC BMWs. The front kidney-shaped grille has been sealed as there is no need for air cooling for a radiator. Instead, the grille houses various cameras, radar, and sensors that are used in the driver assistance system.
In addition, the plastic grille is self-healing. The iX gets sleek front headlamps as well as taillamps. Other design elements of this electric SUV are the frameless windows, fixed clamshell-style bonnet, flush-fitting door handles, side skirts, and tapered glasshouse. It also gets 21-inch tyres which have been optimized for better aerodynamics. BMW has designed iX in order to reduce the coefficient of drag to 0.25!
With the electric architecture inside, you get a flat floor and a huge space around the center console in the front. With natural materials and recycled plastics, the interior looks stunning and upmarket as well. It gets a hexagonal steering wheel for the first time with mounted controls.
You will also get a single curved display that has a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment system angled towards the driver and housed in a single unit. There are no physical buttons on the console. This system uses BMW's latest iDrive 8 infotainment software.
BMW's iDrive rotary controller and the drive selector controller is in the centre armrest and not the floor console which is not there! High-quality wood chrome has been used in places to give the iX a luxury interior. The seats are quite large and spacious as well.
You will get a host of comfort and convenience features such as an electrochromic panoramic sunroof, multi-functional seats with massage function, ambient lighting, heads-up display, wireless charging, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 4-zone climate control, 18-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, soft close doors, surround-view camera, and much more.
The iX sold in India is imported via the CBU route. This means that we get the one that is being sold globally as well.
