The compact SUV Nissan Magnite, produced by Nissan India, has issued a bold statement in terms of safety levels, leaving service to be officially certified by the renowned Global NCAP instead of feature campaigns.
This is a significant milestone in the brand development, considering that the model is not only assembled in India, serving the domestic markets, but the brand is also exporting the vehicles to other markets across the globe.
2 to 5 Stars: An Adventure In Safety Enhancements
However, the story of the Nissan Magnite with Global NCAP started with the pre-facelift model, awarded only 2 stars in adult occupancy and both adult and child occupancy under the modernised test regimes.
The previous version failed to possess some important characteristics, such as the ESC, the ISOFIX mounts, and safety to pedestrians; as a consequence, it had obvious flaws, particularly in the frontal crash tests, as the protection of the drivers and the passengers was diagnosed as marginal.
The facelifted Magnite brought in October in 2024 fared much better in the second round. This model was equipped with six airbags, ESC and ISOFIX mounts, and received 4 stars as far as adult and child safety is concerned. It is interesting to note that it registered a high 16/16 in the side impact test, and it also registered a better 10.51/16 in the frontal crash.
Voluntary Testing Pushes Magnite to Top Rating
Nissan did not stop at the four stars, as it has also provided a more updated version of the facelifted Magnite to Global NCAP to make another attempt at testing.
Although the automaker is yet to divulge the details of the modifications, the outcome was evident, that is, 5 stars in adult occupant protection with a phenomenal 32.31/34 rating.
Nonetheless, the child safety ratings in this last test were reduced to 3 stars although the score of the CRS installation was perfect (12/12). The primary concern was that the 3 year old dummy had poor head protection during the frontal crash test.
Commitment to Safety Pay back
Magnite came out with 5-star rating making it one of the safest compact SUVs in India and Nissan has been pursuing the idea of evolving crash safety standards. It also enhances the confidence of the buyers when purchasing a vehicle that has proven itself in various crash situations together with development phases.
