Nissan Gt R Production To End In October 2024 After 17 Years

Nissan GT-R Production to End in October 2024 After 17 Years

After an illustrious production run of 17 years, Nissan announced the end of the R35 GT-R sports car's production in October 2024. North America, one of the last markets for the GT-R, will bid farewell with two special edition models: the Skyline and Takumi Editions, unveiled earlier this year. The GT-R was discontinued in India and Europe in 2022.

Nissan GT-R: An Overview

Fondly known as "Godzilla," the current-generation GT-R debuted in 2007, replacing the R34 Skyline GT-R. Over the years, Nissan has kept it relevant with two major facelifts, several special editions, and timely performance upgrades to compete with newer rivals and adapt to changing regulations.

This sports car has been particularly renowned in the tuning circle, with some examples producing over 1000hp with specific modifications and upgrades; one such example is known to exist in India. In its stock condition, the GT-R was powered by a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine producing 570hp, mated to a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Power was sent to all four wheels via an AWD system.

Special Edition Models

GT-R Skyline Edition:

  • Exclusive Bayside Blue exterior paint.

  • Blue interiors.

GT-R Takumi Edition:

  • Pays homage to the Takumi master craftspeople who hand-assembled each GT-R engine.

  • Midnight Purple exterior finish with a Mori Green interior.

  • Gold VIN plate with red-etched writing in the engine bay, acknowledging the Takumi dedicated to its creation.

Both models feature carbon-ceramic brakes, gold RAYS forged wheels, and wider front fenders.

Legacy and Future Prospects

There will likely be no direct replacement for the iconic GT-R shortly. Although Nissan showcased the Hyper Force electric concept in October 2023, which previews the next-generation GT-R with an all-electric drivetrain, it is expected to arrive only by the end of this decade.

The GT-R was available in India from 2016 to 2022 and will always be remembered as the everyday sports car, offering a blend of high performance and practicality.

As Nissan bids farewell to the GT-R, its legacy as a groundbreaking and beloved sports car will undoubtedly endure and be cherished by enthusiasts worldwide.
