MG Astor vs Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos: How The Astor Is Different From The Korean Duo

In the faceoff between MG Astor, Hyundai Creta, and Kia Seltos, the Astor carves its niche with distinctive features. Boasting an AI-powered personal assistant and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), the Astor stands out. While the Korean counterparts excel in their own right, the Astor's tech-forward approach and unique offerings provide consumers with a fresh and compelling choice in the competitive SUV market.

MG Astor vs Hyundai Creta vs Kia Seltos - How are the three SUVs different from each other?

Since its arrival, the Hyundai Creta has remained an undisputed seller in the midsize SUV category. Is the Astor good enough to dethrone the Creta from its number-one position? Let's find out.

Astor vs Creta vs Seltos - Exterior

  • The Astor has a more crossover-like design with a curved bonnet line, while the Creta and Seltos offer a slightly more SUV-like upright stance.

  • All three SUVs have LED headlamps, LED DRLs, LED tail lamps, and 17-inch machined alloy wheels in their top-spec trims.

  • In comparison, the Creta and Seltos look more dramatic and have a strong road presence. The Creta has more striking design elements, such as the wraparound design for the C-pillar and a continuous black garnish between the tail lamps. Meanwhile, the Seltos has a lot of sharp creases at the front and rear, making it look more dynamic than the Astor.

Astor vs Creta vs Seltos - Interior

  • In the interior, the Astor impresses more with its multiple choices of leather upholsteries and comparatively better fit and finish levels. The Creta and Seltos come with only two upholstery choices - dual-tone black-and-beige and all-black. The Astor also gets these options alongside a unique combination of black and red.

  • The Astor and Creta have a fancy-looking, fully coloured instrument console and a panoramic sunroof. Meanwhile, the Seltos does away with a single-pane sunroof and a 7-inch TFT MID between analogue gauges.

  • All three SUVs get powered driver's seats and a large touchscreen infotainment system. However, Astor offers more connected car features and a unique AI assistant in the form of a talking robot for various in-car functions.

  • The Astor misses out on some premium features that the Creta and Seltos get, such as ventilated front seats and a wireless charger. The Seltos is the only one here to get a head-up display, while the Astor and Seltos get a 360-degree parking camera, which the Creta misses out on.

Astor vs Creta vs Seltos - Engine and Transmission

  • All three SUVs here come with a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine as standard. However, the engine on duty in Creta and Seltos (115 PS and 144 Nm) feels slightly more powerful than the Astor's mill (110 PS and 144 Nm). The 1.5-litre petrol engines in the three SUVs are offered with a 6-speed manual and a CVT.

  • The Creta and Seltos are also available with a 1.5-litre diesel engine (115 PS and 250 Nm) and two transmission choices. On the other hand, the Astor misses out on a diesel engine but gets a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine (140 PS and 220 Nm). All these engine options come with a 6-speed torque converter, though the diesel engine in the Creta and Seltos also comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Is MG Astor a recommendable option over Creta and Seltos?

The Astor is a newer and fresher SUV among the three and appeals to a younger set of buyers with its fancy tech, such as an AI-assisted talking robot and connected car features. However, the Creta and Seltos have a more proven track record as reliable SUVs. They also score higher with additional vital features like ventilated front seats, a wireless charger, and the option of a diesel engine, which the Astor does not. However, for those who love performance while driving, the Astor has a turbocharged petrol engine, which the other two SUVs miss out on.

The features that make the MG Astor a convenient SUV to own are a 360-degree parking camera and lighter steering. The Astor also gets a few additional tech-based features sourced from third-party companies, like Park+.
