Hyundai Plans Two Brand-New SUVs for India in FY27, Including a Compact Electric Model

Hyundai is gearing up for a significant product offensive in the Indian market, with two entirely new nameplates set to arrive in FY27. One will slot into the competitive mid-size SUV space, while the other takes aim at the fast-growing compact electric SUV segment. Together, they mark the Korean carmaker's most ambitious India expansion in over four years, signalling serious long-term intent in one of the world's most contested automotive markets.

  • Hyundai is set to introduce two completely new SUV nameplates in India during FY27, its first such additions in over four years.

  • One will be a mid-size petrol SUV filling the gap below a future Creta, while the other will be a compact electric SUV positioned against the Tata Nexon EV.

Hyundai has officially announced plans to bring two brand-new SUVs to the Indian market in FY27. Neither model is a refresh or a carry-over; both will arrive as entirely new nameplates, making this the Korean brand's most significant product expansion in India in more than four years.

One will be a mid-size vehicle and the other a compact electric SUV, and together they are expected to set the stage for an even broader launch programme beginning in 2027.

A New Mid-Size Contender to Sit Below the Next-Generation Creta

The reasoning behind the first new model ties directly to what is happening higher up in Hyundai's own lineup. The next-generation Creta is widely expected to grow in size, ambition, and pricing as it moves into a slightly more premium position. That shift will naturally leave a gap where the current Creta sits today, and Hyundai appears keen to fill that space rather than cede it to rivals.

The Bayon, a nameplate already sold in certain international markets, is considered the most likely candidate for this role. It is expected to match the dimensions of the present Creta and carry over similar engine options, giving buyers an accessible entry point into the Hyundai SUV family without compromising on the brand's core strengths.

Hyundai's Dual-Model Strategy in the Compact SUV Segment

This is very much in keeping with how Hyundai operates. The brand has long favoured a two-model approach in segments it considers important, offering buyers a clear choice at different price points. Adding a new nameplate below the next-gen Creta is, in that sense, classic Hyundai thinking.

A Compact Electric SUV Ready to Take on India's Growing EV Segment

The second launch is arguably the more forward-looking of the two. Hyundai's compact electric SUV is expected to be closely related to the Kia Syros EV, sharing its powertrain, overall dimensions, and feature set, though it will carry a different name and identity of its own.

The practical effect is a well-developed, proven electric package brought to market under Hyundai's banner, giving the brand a direct answer to established rivals such as the Tata Nexon EV and the Renault Bridger EV, as well as the Syros EV itself.

Plugging into the Next Phase of EV Growth in India

With the segment occupied by the Creta Electric now fairly well populated, the sub-compact electric space is widely seen as the next major battleground for customer demand. Hyundai's entry here, priced in an estimated range of Rs 12 to 17.5 lakh, could prove well-timed.

What These Two Models Mean for Hyundai's Position in India

Both vehicles address real and growing opportunities. Hyundai's grip on the mid-size SUV space, built largely through the Creta's enduring dominance, can only be strengthened by a complementary model operating in the same territory.

Meanwhile, a credible compact electric SUV would give the brand a meaningful foothold in a segment that is expanding quickly and attracting serious competition. Together, these two nameplates represent a calculated push to consolidate Hyundai's standing across both conventional and electric segments before the broader launch wave arrives in 2027.
