FASTag Annual Pass is a subscription-based plan activated on an existing FASTag without adding any new sticker or device. For a fee of ₹3,000, the pass allows up to 200 tolls or for one year, whichever comes first.
Initially, it will be available only on select National Highways (NH) and National Expressways (NE).
When Does It Start and How to Activate?
The Annual Pass is scheduled to be effective from 15 August 2025 across India. To activate, users must visit the Highway Travel App or official NHAI/MoRTH websites, where a dedicated link will be provided for enrolling their FASTag into the Annual Pass plan.
Note that if a FASTag is registered only with a chassis number, the vehicle registration number (VRN) must be updated first before applying.
How Are Trips Counted?
Each crossing of a toll plaza with a point-based fee will count as one trip. A round trip is counted as two trips. For closed toll plazas, entry and exit together count as a single trip. The total allowed trips under the pass is capped at 200 per year.
Expected Savings
With the new Annual Pass, users may save between ₹1,000 to ₹7,000 annually compared to traditional toll fees or monthly passes. Actual savings depend on travel frequency and distance covered on the National Highways. This can be significant for regular highway users.
Applicability to Commercial Vehicles
Currently, the Annual Pass is designed exclusively for non-commercial private vehicles (cars, jeeps, vans, etc.). Commercial vehicles, including cabs and taxis, will continue using the regular FASTag toll system.
Separate toll rates for commercial vehicles depend on axle count, vehicle size, specific toll plazas, and distance traveled. Monthly passes for commercial vehicles remain unchanged.
Roads Where It Won’t Apply
The pass applies only to toll plazas operated by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). It will not be valid on state highways, privately run toll roads, or state-run expressways. Travellers on these routes must maintain a sufficient FASTag balance for the existing toll collection systems.
Non-Transferability
Each Annual Pass is issued to a single vehicle’s FASTag linked to its chassis and VRN. It cannot be transferred between vehicles. Once activated, the pass is usable only for that specific vehicle for one year or until 200 trips are completed, whichever is earlier.
Key Benefits
No frequent FASTag recharges for toll dues.
Economical up to 200 trips in a year compared to per-trip toll payments.
Quicker passage through toll plazas, reducing waiting time.
Greater transparency and fewer disputes at toll booths.
Real-time SMS notifications for toll usage.
Overall, FASTag Annual Pass offers a simplified, budget-friendly option for private vehicle owners who frequently use National Highways. Priced at ₹3,000 for up to 200 trips or one year, it begins from 15 August 2025, activated via official channels. While cabs, taxis, and other commercial vehicles are excluded, private users stand to gain notable savings, time efficiency, and transparency. Always check route applicability and maintain FASTag balance for non-covered roads.
