Mercedes-Benz India has recalled 30 of its luxury cars due to a possible severe safety issue of faulty work of fuse actors. The high-end automaker confirmed that some models in its GLC line, EQS, S-Class, Maybach S-Class, and SL55 AMG Roadster have been recalled based on the allegations of the possibility of the wrongfully redesigned fuse boxes causing severe functional defects.
Why the Recall Was Issued
As indicated in government records, the affected cars may belong to those models with a fuse box that was perhaps not redesigned or altered properly during production. This may result in the failure of important auto systems wired to the fuse.
The outcome of the fault may result in the loss of immediate propulsion, the failure of the restraint systems, as well as the inapplicability of the instrument cluster, which can all enhance the chances of the crash or injury.
Worse still, placed under certain circumstances, the defect has the potential of peaking into a thermal incidence i.e. basically a fire hazard. Though there have been no such reported incidences in India, the brand is already on precautionary measures to correct the situation.
Vehicles Affected and Production Timeline
The following gives the list of the affected models and the period when they were manufactured:
S-Class / Maybach S-Class: 9 examples were made June 22, 2023, to March 20, 2024.
SL55 AMG Roadster: 2 units made between July 5 -Aug 28, 2023.
GLC SUV: 3 units manufactured from September 09 - December 04, 2023.
EQS Electric Sedan: 16 units are manufactured into July 19, 2023 - April 8, 2024.
What Mercedes-Benz Owners Should Do
Mercedes-Benz India is going directly to the affected customers. The owners will be requested to take their vehicles to the authorised service centres where this fuse box problem will be diagnosed and fixed at free cost. The brand has assured customers that all the corrections that will be essential will be done within a minimum time and with maximum safety compliance.
This recall strengthens the position of this automaker regarding its responsibility of the safety of its customers and its intentions to respond to even rare defects in a proactive manner before they cause any damage.
