Drive with caution: Your next traffic rule breach could earn you a fine of Rs 25,000

Starting March 2025, Noida has introduced stricter traffic penalties to curb violations. Drunk driving now attracts fines up to Rs 25,000 and jail time. Driving without insurance, reckless driving, and blocking emergency vehicles also face hefty fines. With India’s high accident rates, these measures aim to enforce road discipline and enhance safety for all commuters.

Owing to Road Transport and Highways Union Minister, Nitin Gadkari, having mentioned that India witnessed over 4.80 lakh road accidents in the year 2023, the country deserves to be unfortunately termed as the road accident capital of the world, leading to over 1.72 lakh deaths.

In a bid to give teeth to strict enforcement of traffic laws, and road safety: in Noida, the fines have been upped considerably. It seems there is an increase in fines in a big way for any kind of traffic violations specially with respect to drunken driving-he was riding without a helmet-and dangerous driving.

The new motor vehicle offenses and fines came into effect from the 1st day of March 2025.

Drunken Driving

If you thought that the worst thing that could happen to you in drunken driving was a hangover think again. Under the fresh rules, a man driving under the influence stands to pay a tight Rs 10,000 for the ordeal with imprisonment for six months. A warning for recidivists. The third time will now see a fat Rs 15,000 fine and up to two years of staycation time in prison.

Driving without valid insurance can prove to be an expensive affair. Fines of up to Rs. 2000 that can entail three months of jail time or community service are imposed. If you think it is worth it, repeat offenders will have to pay Rs. 4000.

Traffic Discipline

Should you think you're in some Fast & Furious sequel and you're caught racing on public roads or dangerous driving, you will be planning on losing Rs. 5000. Besides, now fines will be Rs. 10000 for those who fail to provide free passage to emergency vehicles like ambulances. The penalties for overload of vehicles are also raised significantly from Rs. 2000 as it used to be, to Rs 20000 now.
