Cars Discontinued in India in 2024: A Look at What We Lost This Year

A Year of Change in the Indian Auto Market

While 2024 brought exciting launches and updates to the Indian automobile market, it also saw the curtain fall on several models and variants. From MPVs to electric vehicles, these discontinuations were driven by factors like low demand, lack of updates, and market transitions.

Let’s take a closer look at the notable cars and SUV variants that exited the Indian market this year.

Mahindra Marazzo: A Silent Exit

Last Recorded Price: Rs 14.59 lakh - Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom)

Mahindra quietly removed the Marazzo from its website in July 2024, signaling its discontinuation. The MPV struggled with low sales and lacked significant updates to stay competitive. Powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine delivering 123 PS and 300 Nm, the Marazzo was paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Despite being re-listed briefly, dealer sources confirm it is no longer available for purchase.

Jeep Meridian: Select Variants Axed

Last Recorded Price: Rs 29.99 lakh - Rs 31.23 lakh (ex-showroom)

In 2024, Jeep introduced new base variants of the Meridian, slashing the starting price by Rs 6.24 lakh. Simultaneously, the Limited and X variants were removed from the lineup. The updated Meridian now offers Longitude, Longitude Plus, Limited (O), and Overland trims, with the base variant available in a 5-seat layout and the rest featuring 7-seat configurations.

Citroen C5 Aircross: Base Variant Discontinued

Last Recorded Price: Rs 36.91 lakh (ex-showroom)

Citroen announced the discontinuation of the base-spec ‘Feel’ variant of the C5 Aircross SUV, leaving only the top-end Shine trim priced at Rs 39.99 lakh. The Shine variant boasts a 2-litre diesel engine producing 177 PS and 400 Nm, coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Hyundai Kona Electric: First EV Retires

Last Recorded Price: Rs 23.84 lakh (ex-showroom)

Hyundai retired its first EV in India, the Kona Electric, after five years without significant updates. Globally, the Kona received upgrades, but the Indian model remained stagnant. Hyundai’s EV portfolio will now focus on the upcoming Creta EV.

Premium EVs and Compact Luxury Farewell

  • Jaguar I-Pace: With a price tag of Rs 1.26 crore, the I-Pace was among the first premium EVs in India. Jaguar now focuses on transitioning to a luxury EV lineup.

  • Mini Cooper SE and ICE Countryman: Both models exited the Indian market, making way for their next-generation versions.

Conclusion

2024 marked a year of transitions, with these exits reflecting evolving market demands and trends. As automakers pivot toward newer technologies and sustainable solutions, we can expect more dynamic shifts in the coming years.
