BatX Energies and MG Collaborate on Revolutionary Off-Grid Solar-EV Charging Station!

The announcement of India's first off-grid solar-EV charging station, powered by repurposed MG EV batteries, by MG Motor India and BatX Energies, a greenfield startup founded in 2020, represents a significant advancement in sustainable mobility.

At a function held at IIT Delhi, where the live demonstration was installed, Prof. Ajay Sood, Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, formally launched the product.

In collaboration with MG, BatX Energies (with funding from Delhi Research Implementation and Innovation, or DRIIV) created the second-life battery storage system to give the used batteries from MG EVs a second chance at life.

The product, which is currently in the industrialization stage, is an off-grid solar EV charging station that can be used to recharge two-wheelers and four-wheelers. This will lessen the need for conventional electricity sources and cut down on the carbon emissions that come with using traditional EV charging techniques. MG Motor India is working to advance a circular and sustainable economy through this initiative.

On the other hand, Co-founder and CTO of BatX Energies, Vikrant Singh, stated, "We are thrilled to present India's first off-grid solar-powered charging station, made possible by MG Motor India and utilizing second-life MG EV batteries. This is a significant development for sustainable mobility that demonstrates our dedication to lowering carbon emissions and our inventiveness. We hope to work with OEMs in the future to change the EV market in India as we lead this initiative. With a 20kWh starting point and a 100kWh scalable system, this second-life battery storage system, powered by 6.6kW of solar power, represents a revolutionary change in energy solutions. producing 40 units, or about 40 kWh, per day. It highlights our commitment to offering sustainable energy that is adaptable, scalable, and dependable to meet a range of needs."

With its 6-way charging infrastructure, MG Motor India has established more than 15,000 charging touchpoints across the country, including public and residential chargers, to create a strong EV environment. To strengthen the EV ecosystem, MG has partnered with major players in the market like Tata Power, Delta Electronics, and Fortum to guarantee the development of a strong infrastructure for charging EVs. Charging stations have been installed at key touchpoints around the country thanks in part to partnerships with BPCL and Jio-BP. To recycle, reuse, and extend the life of batteries, the company is also collaborating with its partners to establish an infrastructure for EV charging.
