India’s First AMT CNG Vehicles: The Tiago and Tigor iCNG, Unveiled by Tata Motors

India’s First AMT CNG Vehicles

The Tiago and Tigor, two of Tata Motors' best-selling models, now have automatic CNG AMT versions for the first time in India. There will be three different variants of the Tiago CNG AMT, priced between Rs 7.90 lakh and Rs 8.80 lakh, and two variants of the Tigor iCNG, priced between Rs 8.85 lakh and Rs 9.55 lakh. Ex-showroom rates apply to these prices. A nominal payment of Rs 21,000 is required for customers who are keen to reserve one of these new models. The company will be adding a curious new Tornado Blue in the Tiago, Grassland Beige in the Tiago NRG, and a Meteor Bronze in the Tigor to the current color palette.

Powertrain

Tata has not changed the 1.2-liter, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine despite the introduction of CNG technology. This engine produces 86 horsepower and 113 Nm of torque when powered by petrol; when using compressed natural gas (CNG), the output drops to 73 horsepower and 95 Nm. A 5-speed AMT and a 5-speed manual gearbox are the available options.

Commercial Officer of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., Mr. Amit Kamat, made the following statement regarding the launch: "CNG, known for its widespread availability and accessibility, has garnered considerable acceptance over the years." With several industry firsts, including twin-cylinder technology (which helps provide no compromise boot space), premium feature options, and direct start in CNG, Tata Motors has completely transformed the CNG market. We have sold over 1.3 lakh CNG cars in the last 24 months. We are now pleased to introduce India to its first AMT CNG cars with the launch of the Tiago and Tigor iCNG in AMT, as part of our ongoing efforts to increase volume and give our customers the best.”

"Tata Motors, with the Tiago, Tigor, Altroz, and Punch models, has the broadest range of CNG vehicles. As one of the top two brands in the CNG industry, we saw an astounding 67.9% increase in CNG sales in FY24 over the prior year. We are optimistic that the release of these Intelligent, Safe, and Powerful twins will increase demand for this fuel choice and, as a result, maintain our momentum for growth in passenger cars,” he further added.
