There are a total of three Regional Transport Offices (RTO) in Kolkata. These RTOs perform various transport-related activities such as issuance and renewal of learner's licenses, permits, registration certificates for vehicles, collection of road tax, etc. as per The Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Getting your vehicle registered is a mandatory task in India. You are not allowed to drive your vehicle anywhere without a registration. You will be issued a temporary registration certificate for a new vehicle which is valid for 7 days and can be extended for up to 1 month. Step 2: You will have to take your vehicle with you. The inspector will inspect your vehicle thoroughly.
