Regional Transport Office (RTO) is responsible for maintaining transport and vehicle-related details and records. If you have bought a new vehicle recently or just got a challan for a traffic offence, the RTO Gandhinagar (RTO Code: GJ-18) is the place to go.

In the State, authorized dealers are allowed to check automobiles and two-wheelers. If such a certificate is provided by the dealer, it must be submitted with the application; otherwise, the vehicle must be brought in to the RTO for examination.
Once the registration process is complete and all documents attached to Form 20 are verified as being accurate, the vehicle is given a registration number. If the owner has not paid the appropriate fee to obtain a specific registration number, the vehicle registration number is randomly assigned by the computer.
The vehicle owner is notified of the registration number by SMS or the provided email address.

Every private vehicle must be reregistered or renewed by the Indian Motor Vehicle Act after 15 years of purchase and then every 5 years after that. Also, if a car is moved to another state in India, the new state must obtain a new registration for the vehicle. According to the motor vehicle statute, re-registering a car in a new state within 30 days is required.

Transfer tax shall be paid as a lump payment at 15% of the initial lump sum tax; however, if the vehicle is more than 8 years old, tax at 1% or Rs. 100/-, whichever is higher, must be paid.
