As of December 01, 2017, the Government of India made it compulsory for every vehicle to have a FASTag. FASTag is introduced as a simple solution for hassle-free travel across the toll plazas and National Highways. FASTag was introduced as a pilot project by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in 2014 and is operated under the framework of National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC). In 2019, it became mandatory for every four-wheeler to have a FASTag affixed on its windshield. In this path, several NHAI-approved FASTag providers came into existence with the ‘One Vehicle, One Tag’ initiative and IDBI Bank FASTag is one of the recognised FASTag providers by IDBI Bank.
IDBI Bank FASTag is an electronic toll collection system that enables automatic toll payments on highways across India. Issued by IDBI Bank, the FASTag uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology and is affixed on the vehicle’s windshield. When a vehicle passes through a FASTag-enabled toll plaza, the toll amount is automatically deducted from the linked account, allowing seamless and cashless travel.
FASTag is accepted at 600+ National Highway toll plazas and several State Highway toll plazas under the FASTag program managed by the National Highways Authority of India. IDBI Bank FASTag contains an RFID chip and antenna embedded in the tag. Once activated, the FASTag is linked to the customer’s prepaid account, allowing automatic and cashless toll payments whenever the vehicle passes through a FASTag-enabled toll plaza.
Here is the working of the IDBI Bank FASTag:
Buying and activation: After completing the buy FASTag online or offline process, the tag is then activated and attached to the vehicle's windscreen.
Vehicle detection: The device readers at toll plazas use Radio-frequency Identification (RFID) technology to read the information stored in the tag. When the vehicle drives through the dedicated FASTag lanes at the toll plaza, the installed readers scan the information.
Toll charges deduction: After the successful validation of the data across the database, the linked account is deducted as per the applicable toll charges. Thus, it becomes important to regularly check the IDBI FASTag recharge.
Way to the vehicle: Once the toll charges are collected, the designated staff member allows passage to the vehicle.
Notified: The vehicle owner receives information about the deducted toll charges through SMS for transparency.
IDBI Bank FASTag serves the primary purpose of allowing travellers to make hassle-free toll payments without waiting in long queues. The other highlights are:
Mandatory by law: Every vehicle in India is mandated by law to have a valid FASTag mapped to it.
Cashless toll payments: The FASTag is an electronic way of making cashless toll payments. The applicable charges are deducted automatically from the linked prepaid account with adequate FASTag recharge online.
Faster payments: The toll charges are deducted through the linked prepaid account, making payments quicker and more secure.
Validity: The FASTag is valid for a period of 5 years from the date of its issuance. During these years, travellers can easily use the tag by getting the FASTag recharge IDBI Bank as and when required.
Easy to handle: IDBI Bank FASTag is a 10x5 cm compact rechargeable tag which is pasted to the vehicle’s windshield, making it convenient for the users to handle.
Online recharge: Users can avail the benefit of the IDBI Bank FASTag recharge online. Depending on convenience, they can choose to either recharge the tag online or offline.
Environmental and economic benefits: IDBI Bank FASTag has contributed to both environmental and economic benefits by reducing the emissions in the waiting line and the use of paper.
