Volkswagen India has relaunched the Golf GTI (Mk 8.5), an iconic hot hatch that returns to India after a long absence. The Golf GTI is launched with an ex-showroom price of ₹53 lakh, making it the most expensive Volkswagen available in India, in CBU form.
All of the first allocation of 150 units has already been sold, but enthusiasts can thank Volkswagen for possibly bringing another 100 units, depending on demand.
Performance-centric Mechanics: What's Under the Bonnet?
The Golf GTI is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol TSI engine, delivering a whopping 265 hp and 370 Nm of torque, driving the front wheels/axles with the help of a highly advanced 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (DSG) transmission and electronically controlled front-axle differential lock, aiding in sharper handling abilities.
The hot hatch does 0-100 kph in a slightly over-achieving 5.9 seconds and has an electronic top speed of 250kph - being faster than the Mini Cooper S competitor.
A sleek design with sporty touches
The Golf GTI is sporty on the outside, and features, like the Matrix LED headlamps, illuminated VW badge, X-shaped LED fog lights, and the red strip on the front grille, emphasize the sporty aesthetic. The body-kitted aesthetic includes GTI badging, alloy wheels (18” dual-tone) red brake callipers, and dual exhaust tips.
The Golf GTI is available in the following colors: Grenadilla Black, Kings Red, Moonstone Grey, and Oryx White.
Tech-rich interior with ADAS safety
Once inside, the GTI offered sport seats with the goat tartan pattern, a leather-wrapped GTI steering wheel, a 12.9-inch touchscreen display and a 10.25-inch digital driver display. Aspects that impact comfort included: three-zone climate control, a sun-roof, ambient lighting, paddle shifters, and heated front seats.
In terms of protection, the GTI features seven airbags, Level 2 ADAS for semi-autonomous driving, a rear-view camera, tyre pressure monitoring, ISOFIX mounts, and other driver assistance features like lane-change assist and rear traffic alert, providing modern protection in a fun and performance-oriented package.
