Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella EV Unveiled in India

Marking a major shift in its India strategy, Toyota steps into the mass-market EV space with the Urban Cruiser Ebella. Offering long range, modern tech and strong ownership assurances, the electric SUV is aimed squarely at urban, future-ready buyers. Early bookings and attractive ownership programs are expected to drive strong initial interest.

  • Toyota has officially unveiled the Urban Cruiser Ebella, its first mass-market electric SUV for India, with bookings now open ahead of launch.

  • The new EV offers two battery options and a claimed range of up to 543 km, marking a significant step in Toyota’s electric mobility push in India

Toyota Motor has taken the wraps off the Urban Cruiser Ebella, its first dedicated electric SUV for the Indian market. The model, revealed in January 2026, represents Toyota’s entry into the highly competitive midsize EV segment and expands its product portfolio beyond traditional petrol, diesel and hybrid models.

Bookings for the Urban Cruiser Ebella are now open across Toyota dealerships nationwide for a token amount of ₹25,000, with official pricing and variant details expected closer to the vehicle’s launch later this year.

EV Platform and Shared Architecture

The Urban Cruiser Ebella is a badge-engineered counterpart of the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara, developed as part of the Toyota-Suzuki alliance. It shares its underlying platform, battery options and many key components with its sibling, while incorporating Toyota-specific design and feature touches.

This collaboration reflects a broad industry trend toward shared electric architectures, allowing brands to accelerate EV rollouts while optimising costs and localisation.

Design and Exterior Features

The Urban Cruiser Ebella adopts a contemporary EV-focused design, blending Toyota’s global styling cues with aerodynamic efficiency. Slim LED headlamps, full-width daytime running lights and pronounced body cladding give the SUV a bold, upright stance, while the rear features a connected LED light bar for a modern finish.

Interior and Tech Suite

The cabin of the Ebella is a departure from Toyota’s traditional utilitarian designs, offering a premium, tech-heavy environment:

  • Dual-Screen Layout: A seamless integration of a large infotainment touchscreen and a fully digital driver’s display.

  • Modern Controls: A unique two-spoke steering wheel and a floating center console that creates a sense of airiness in the cabin.

  • Advanced Safety: The SUV comes equipped with a comprehensive ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) suite, multiple airbags, and a 360-degree camera.

Battery, Range and Powertrain

Toyota will offer the Urban Cruiser Ebella with two battery pack options: a 49 kWh unit and a larger 61 kWh pack, both paired with a single electric motor driving the front wheels.

  • The 49 kWh variant produces around 144 PS and 189 Nm, offering a claimed range suitable for daily urban use.

  • The 61 kWh variant delivers around 174 PS, with a claimed ARAI range of up to 543 km on a single charge, positioning it among the class leaders in range.

Both variants support AC and DC fast charging, while Toyota is also offering ownership assurance measures such as an 8-year battery warranty, a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme and an assured buyback plan to ease long-term ownership concerns.

In the market, the Urban Cruiser Ebella will take on rivals including the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV and Mahindra BE6, alongside its platform sibling, the Maruti e-Vitara EV. Toyota aims to capture a significant share of the premium EV market, providing a silent, zero-emission alternative to its popular hybrid lineup
