Lucknow, January 30, 2024:
In a surprising turn of events, Satendra Singh Shekhawat, a 43-year-old with educational qualifications in BTech and MBA, has been apprehended for his involvement in a car theft racket. Shekhawat's sophisticated modus operandi involved befriending service centre staff to obtain crucial car details, using GPS trackers to locate vehicles, and employing duplicate keys to steal them, avoiding small cars and targeting SUVs instead.
Upon stealing the vehicles, Shekhawat would meticulously clean the crime scene and dispose of any evidence before transporting the cars to Rajasthan, where he would hand them over to members of the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The revelation came to light following Shekhawat's arrest on Monday, after a police team had been tracking him since December 2023.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Qasim Abidi, disclosed that Shekhawat's criminal activities spanned over two decades, with more than 100 cars stolen during this period. The stolen vehicles were reported across multiple states, including Maharashtra, Haryana, Telangana, Karnataka, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. Furthermore, Shekhawat had previous convictions in Telangana and Karnataka and was released from prison just a year ago.
During interrogation, Shekhawat admitted to specific theft incidents, including a black SUV stolen from Darulshafa and a white SUV from Telibagh. The police investigation began in December 2023 when complaints were filed regarding stolen vehicles, such as a Fortuner belonging to Narendra Nath Shukla and valuables stolen from a car owned by Dr Sushma Shah.
The arrest of Shekhawat sheds light on the intricate network of car theft operations in the region, implicating not only the perpetrators but also the criminal organizations they supplied the stolen vehicles to. Authorities are now working to dismantle such networks and ensure the safety and security of citizens and their property.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the public in combating organized crime activities.
