The Tata Nexon EV is set to become the first sub-4-metre electric SUV in India to be equipped with an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).
According to dealers, a new top-of-the-line variant called the Nexon EV 45 Empowered+ A will be unveiled in the next few weeks. This will be the start of the festive season, with the aim of attracting a large number of buyers.
What the Empowered+ A Variant Brings to the Table
The Nexon EV 45 Empowered+ A variant aims to introduce the Nexon EV powered by a 45kWh battery as the first sub-4-metre electric SUV in India to feature a Level 2 advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS).
Tata Motors is adding smart systems like adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, rear cross-traffic alert, high-beam assist, driver drowsiness detector, and more to the new variant to achieve this aim.
The 45kWh battery version is a 489km MIDC range rated electric vehicle with a real-world range of around 350km. The Nexon EV also has a 30kWh version, but the ADAS features will be unique to the bigger battery model. Moreover, a Red Dark Edition of the Empowered+ A is the sporty variant for those who want a sportier version.
Price and Positioning
The Nexon EV 45 Empowered+ is currently priced at ₹16.99 lakh, and its Red Dark Edition goes for ₹17.19 lakh (ex-showroom). The new ADAS-empowered 45 Empowered+ A is anticipated to be carrying a higher price of around ₹75,000, thus its estimated price being between ₹17.75–17.99 lakh.
This pricing strategy gives Tata the advantage of being able to price below the MG Windsor Essence Pro, which is equipped with ADAS and larger 52.9kWh battery but is priced at ₹18.39 lakh. By maintaining the Nexon EV at a competitive price, Tata increases its attractiveness to the rapidly growing EV SUV segment.
What This Means
By launching Nexon EV Empowered+ A, Tata has signaled its commitment to safety, technology, and value. With Level 2 ADAS coming into the sub-₹20 lakh EV category, the features that were accessible only to the buyers of higher-end SUVs will now be available to them, thus increasing the market position of Nexon EV.
