Skoda is set to launch a sub-4m SUV in India by March 2025, and they've introduced a unique naming contest allowing enthusiasts to suggest a name for the new SUV. The contest, open for entries until April 12, 2024, offers participants a chance to win the new SUV, while up to 10 lucky winners could win a trip to Prague. Skoda has outlined specific conditions for the name: it must start with 'K' and end with 'Q' and be a 1 or 2 syllable word.

The carmaker has also shortlisted a few names that align with its existing SUV nomenclature, including Kariq, Kwiq, Kylaq, Kymaq, and Kyroq. The selected names reflect a consistent pattern seen in Skoda's SUV lineup, featuring names starting with 'K' and ending with 'Q,' such as the Kushaq, Kodiaq, and Karoq.
The upcoming sub-4m SUV will be based on the MQB-A0-IN platform, similar to the Kushaq compact SUV, but resized to adhere to sub-4m segment regulations. Expected to be well-equipped, the SUV may include notable features like a large touchscreen, sunroof, and digital driver display.
In terms of safety, the new SUV, underpinned by the Kushaq’s MQB-A0-IN platform with a 5-star Global NCAP crash test rating, is likely to provide similar protection. Anticipated safety features include six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
Powering the SUV is expected to be the smaller 1-litre turbo-petrol engine from the Kushaq, delivering 115 PS and 178 Nm. Transmission options may include both 6-speed manual and automatic choices.
Pricing for the Skoda sub-4m SUV is estimated to start at Rs 8.50 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV is poised to compete with popular models in the sub-4m crossover segment, such as the Maruti Brezza, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, and the Maruti Fronx.
Skoda’s innovative naming contest engages the community in shaping the identity of their new SUV, adding an exciting dimension to the anticipation surrounding the upcoming launch. With a consistent naming style and a promising set of features, Skoda's sub-4m SUV is poised to make a significant impact in the competitive Indian SUV market.
