The Rox Motor SUV, patented in India, blends design elements from both the Rox 01 and Adamas models and features a LiDAR unit.
The vehicle offers 469 bhp, a 1,226 km combined WLTC range, serious off-road hardware, and a premium cabin with Nappa leather, a 15.7-inch touchscreen, and massage-equipped lounge seats.
Chinese carmaker Rox Motor has filed a patent for its flagship plug-in hybrid SUV in India, and it is the kind of vehicle that is difficult to overlook. The brand itself is relatively new but hardly obscure, with notable backing from Xiaomi, Sequoia Capital, and Tencent. The version patented in India is particularly interesting because it does not simply replicate a single existing model. Instead, it blends design elements from both the Rox 01 and the Adamas, the two SUVs currently available in the brand's global lineup.
There is also a notable pattern worth paying attention to here. JSW Motors has already patented and teased multiple Chinese SUVs in India, and there is speculation that this vehicle could make its India entry through the same route. Nothing has been officially confirmed, but the association adds a layer of credibility to the prospect of a genuine Indian launch.
Dimensions and Design That Command Attention
Measuring 5.3 metres in length, 1.9 metres in width, and 1.8 metres in height, with a 3.0-metre wheelbase, this is a full-size SUV in every sense of the phrase. The design language is bold and deliberate, with a massive grille, large headlamps, a straight roofline, roof rails, a side-hinged tailgate, and a rear-mounted spare wheel all contributing to its rugged, purposeful character. It is the sort of silhouette that draws comparisons to the Land Rover Defender, and not without reason.
One detail that stands out on the India-patented version is the inclusion of a LiDAR unit mounted on the windshield, hinting at a level of driver assistance technology that goes well beyond what most vehicles in this segment currently offer.
A Hybrid Powertrain Built for Substance, Not Just Show
Output and Performance
The SUV runs a plug-in hybrid setup where a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder engine functions purely as a range extender, with no quoted power figure of its own. The real grunt comes from a front motor producing 201 bhp and 340 Nm, paired with a rear motor rated at 268 bhp and 400 Nm.
The combined system output stands at 469 bhp and 740 Nm, delivered through a full-time four-wheel-drive layout. The 56.01 kWh battery pack is sourced from CATL. Despite weighing 2,745 kg, the SUV covers 0 to 100 kmph in 5.5 seconds.
Range and Charging
WLTC figures put the combined petrol-plus-electric range at 1,226 km, while the pure electric range stands at 235 km.
A full charge via a 7 kW AC charger takes 8.8 hours. The vehicle also supports V2L and V2V reverse charging, adding a layer of practical utility that goes beyond simply getting from A to B.
Off-Road Credentials That Read Like a Trail Guide
Rox Motor markets this SUV as a serious off-roader, and the hardware supports that claim confidently. The air suspension offers a maximum travel of 140mm, with ride height adjustable upward by 80mm for rough terrain use.
Ground clearance sits between 272mm and 324mm, the approach and departure angles are 27.5 and 27.9 degrees respectively, and the vehicle can wade through up to 770mm of water. It can also climb a 45-degree slope. The rear suspension further lowers by up to 60mm to ease loading and unloading.
An Interior That Balances Luxury with Practicality
Two seating configurations are available: a 2-2-2 six-seat layout with premium lounge-style captain seats and a 2-3-2 seven-seat arrangement. The lounge seats in the six-seat variant come with massage, heating, ventilation, and ottoman functions, making long journeys genuinely comfortable.
On the technology and luxury front, the China-specification model is equipped with Nappa leather upholstery, a 15.7-inch infotainment touchscreen, a rear entertainment screen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a premium audio system, soft-close doors, and three-zone automatic climate control.
Additional features include a heated and four-way adjustable steering wheel, a PM 2.5 cabin air filter, 256-colour ambient lighting, a 12-way powered driver's seat, and a 10-way powered front passenger seat. Boot space starts at 346 litres with all rows in place and expands to 2,175 litres with the second and third rows folded flat.
The Question of Whether India Will Actually See It
No official launch date or pricing has been announced for India. In markets where the vehicle is currently available, it carries a price tag of AED 2,32,000, which translates to approximately Rs 59 lakh.
Whether this patent translates into a showroom reality or simply remains a protective filing is something only time will tell. What is clear, however, is that if Rox Motor does choose to enter India with this SUV, it will arrive with a genuinely compelling case.
