Renault Confirms Tribber 2022 Not Compatible With E20 Fuel

Renault India confirms that the 2022 Renault Triber was not tested for compatibility with E20 fuel and advises against using it, raising concerns for owners as India shifts to E20 nationwide. Here’s everything you need to know about Renault’s statement.

Renault India has confirmed that the 2022 Renault Triber is not compatible with E20 fuel, which contains a 20 percent ethanol blend. The clarification of this query came after a customer reached out to the company’s support team to check whether this vehicle could run on the new fuel mix or not.

The Company’s Statement

Recently, a Renault India customer had approached the company’s support team to check the fuel compatibility of the 2022 Triber. In response, Renault clarified that the model “has not been tested with E20 fuel” and therefore its usage is not recommended. The advisory also indicates that using E20 might harm the vehicle’s engine and related systems, since the model was not designed to run on this new fuel blend.

A Problem For The Car Owners

For some time now, the Indian government has been pushing manufacturers and users towards ethanol-blended fuels to reduce crude oil emissions. As part of this strategy, petrol stations across the country are now increasingly offering E20 fuel, which contains 20% ethanol. While this is a positive step for sustainability, it is also a challenge for vehicles produced before April 2023.

Since the 2022 Renault Triber was made before this deadline, it was not equipped with E20 compatibility in mind. Owners may face issues such as reduced fuel efficiency, higher usage of engine components, or even long-term damage if they use E20 regularly.

Additionally, any such damage may not be covered under warranty, leaving customers with potentially high repair costs.

The Bigger Picture

Renault’s reply to the customer highlights a wider problem: several models produced before April 2023 from multiple manufacturers are not E20-ready. This creates a problem for customers who bought cars just a few years ago but may soon find themselves with limited fuel options.

While E10 (10% ethanol blend) continues to be available, its usage is reducing as E20 expands, which may cause difficulties for older vehicle owners.

Conclusion

Renault’s statement about the 2022 Triber not being compatible with E20 fuel is a reminder of the challenges Indian customers may face soon. While the shift to cleaner fuel is a step in the right direction for sustainability, thousands of car owners remain caught between sustainability goals and the limitations of older vehicles.
