Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is also the Chairmanperson of the Governing Council of Gujarat was the chief guest in the inauguration of the first on-plant rail-siding today in-company which is a subsidiary of Maruti Suzuki India through a video conferencing.
This project has stemmed from the Gati Shakti program of the government that is intended to solve the issues of logistics overhaul and carbon emissions reduction. The on-site railway trafficking facility at SMG besides, is anticipated to aid in these two pledges by lowering the carbon oxide emission and also decongesting the roads.
The project, an alliance between Maruti and Gujarat Rail Infrastructure Development (G-RIDE), will allow the factory to implement an export platform that will enable the dispatch of 300,000 cars per annum to a selected 15 destinations within India.
"We at Maruti believe it's an achievement to be part of the Prime Minister's giant economic project, the Gati Shakti," said Hisashi Takeuchi, MD & CEO of Maruti. The day of the inauguration stands out reflecting the fact that we are the only automobile institution to have a siding unit within the plant in the entirety of India.
Moreover, Takeuchi also highlighted that the railway sidings in Maruti's production facilities were one of the essential pieces of the sum during the joint development process, especially as the company was aiming to double its production capacity from 2,00,000 vehicles to 4,00,000 vehicles per annum by FY2031.
Maruti announced the construction of new production line 4 at SMG and has said that this will amount to an investment of Rs 3200 crore, but operationally it will commence by the financial year 2027. The additional output of the plant equals 250,000 units beside the current capacity of 750,000 units.
Signs of growth, as Maruti Suzuki's board approves the buyout of SMG from Suzuki Motor Corporation for a total consideration of Rs 12,841.1 crore, which offers future growth prospects for the company in Gujarat.
The establishment by Maruti Suzuki India of an in-plant railway siding is a feather in its cap which means that the enterprise is at the front line in the practices of good manufacturing processes and efficient logistics management in the automotive industry.
