New Renault Duster: Hybrid, CNG & Electric Powertrains

Renault’s third-generation Duster debuts with diverse fuel options—from strong hybrid and 48 V mild hybrid to bi‑fuel petrol‑LPG—with advanced AWD, rugged styling and tech features poised to reshape India’s compact SUV landscape.

Renault is all set to reintroduce the Duster in India by late 2025 or early 2026, bringing a fresh design, advanced hybrid systems, bi‑fuel options and all‑wheel drive technology.

Let’s explore what makes this generation a game‑changer.

Rugged Design & Refreshed Chassis

Built on the modular CMF‑B platform—shareable across internal‑combustion and electrified models—the new Duster features bold Y‑shaped LED DRLs and sleek headlights reminiscent of the Dacia Bigster concept.

Measuring 4,340 mm in length and a 2,657 mm wheelbase, it also boasts muscular squared wheel arches, dual‑tone 18″ alloys, a rugged skid plate and integrated C‑pillar handles.

Trio of Powertrain Options

1. Strong‑Hybrid “Hybrid 140”

A 1.6‑litre petrol engine (94 hp) pairs seamlessly with a 49 hp electric motor and starter generator, driven by a 1.2 kWh battery. This system supports electric‑only city driving and regenerative braking. Output is expected to be around 140 PS.

2. 48 V Mild‑Hybrid TCe 130

Powered by a 1.2‑litre turbo petrol engine and a 48 V motor, this setup delivers 130 hp combined. A compact 0.8 kWh battery manages regenerative energy, aiding efficiency during starts or acceleration.

3. Bi‑Fuel Petrol‑LPG (ECO‑G)

A 1.0‑litre three‑cylinder engine runs on petrol and LPG from two 50‑litre tanks. Switching is made easy via a dash button. A 1.2‑litre ECO‑G 48 V variant producing around 150 bhp is also in development.

AWD & Terrain Tech

The 4×4 models combine front‑engine petrol drive with an electric motor on the rear axle—similar to Jeep Avenger 4xe technology. This e‑axle, by Valeo, enhances traction in slippery conditions.

Transmission is auto-only, with five terrain modes: Auto, Snow, Mud/Sand, Off-road, and Eco. Ground clearance is 217 mm with 31° approach and 36° departure angles.

Connected Cabin & Safety

Inside, the Duster blends practicality with tech comfort: a 10.1″ touchscreen, 7″ digital cluster, Arkamys 3D six‑speaker audio, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, wireless phone charging, and rear AC vents. It includes ADAS features like AEB for pedestrians/cyclists, traffic sign recognition, lane‑keep assist, h‑hold, and rear‑park assist.

India Launch & Market Positioning

Expected to debut in India by late 2025 (possibly early 2026), Renault India is focusing on launching the strong‑hybrid variant first, with mild‑hybrid and bi‑fuel options to follow . With a Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) expected starting price, it will compete directly with Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, VW Taigun and MG Astor .

Renault has invested roughly ₹5,300 crore into localising CMF‑B production, meaning the Duster could be priced aggressively while delivering global‑class features.

Thus, the final take is Renault’s new Duster arrives as a versatile, value‑driven compact SUV with multiple fuel options—full‑hybrid, mild‑hybrid and LPG—backed by modern AWD, terrain modes, connected tech and safety systems. With strong localisation and competitive pricing, it promises to re‑ignite the Duster legacy in India’s SUV segment.
