MG Unveils the ZS HEV at Auto Expo 2025 - Is It an Upgraded Successor of the ZS EV?

MG unveils the ZS HEV at Auto Expo 2025, hinting at a potential successor to the ZS EV and Astor.

At the 2025 Auto Expo at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, MG Motor unveiled its new hybrid SUV ZS HEV, which can take over from the ZS EV and Astor currently on offer in India. On the other hand, no launch date has been revealed by MG, and according to industry experts, it is likely to be launched in Indian markets before the beginning of the next year.

On display is the ZS HEV, which is a brave step towards in design, technology and powertrain offering a wider range of features and improved engine performance.

Let's look into the nitty-gritty of this new hybrid SUV.

Design Overhaul

The ZS HEV boasts a new look from the previous versions. With an eye-catching new bumper featuring one bold bit patterned grille and L-shape inserts on the sides of the bumper, the front end is a statement.

Redesigned headlamps and tail lamps, for example, can also enhance its modern aesthetic. The SUV further features sophisticated looking 18-inch alloy wheels and a smooth character line which gracefully curves upward towards the back, further improving its sporting posture.

Slightly Bigger and More Spacious

Dimensionally, the ZS HEV is slightly larger than its predecessors, measuring 4,430 mm in length, 1,818 mm in width, and 1,635 mm in height. And its wheelbase is 2,610 mm, which guarantees a roomy cabin. While the boot space has reduced slightly from 448 litres to 443 litres, it still offers ample storage for everyday needs.

Powertrain and Performance

The MG ZS HEV (worldwide) is equipped with a 1.5 liter naturally aspirated, 4-cylinder petrol engine and a 1.83 kwh battery pack. Here, the motor generates 100 bhp with 128 Nm of torque, while an electric motor yields 134 bhp with a massive 250 Nm of torque.

Together, the hybrid system allows the ZS HEV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.7 seconds and achieve a top speed of 168 km/h. The combination of power and efficiency is what makes it an attractive option in the hybrid SUV market.

What to Expect

The ZS HEV is not merely a powertrain improvement, it is a statement of MG’s policy innovation. With its refreshed design, advanced hybrid technology, and modern features, this SUV is poised to capture the attention of eco-conscious and style-focused buyers alike.

Already, with the potential for launch of the MG ZS HEV in India, excitement builds. Whether it’s a successor to the ZS EV or a new addition to MG’s lineup, the ZS HEV is undoubtedly one of the standout showcases of the Auto Expo 2025.
