Mercedes-Benz Maybach SL 680: Luxury Meets Sports Car Performance

Mercedes-Benz is set to launch its most athletic Maybach yet—the SL 680 Monogram Series—combining the brand's legendary luxury with exhilarating performance. This opulent convertible features distinctive Maybach styling, a premium interior, and a powerful V8 engine that delivers 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 4 seconds.

Mercedes-Benz is expanding its ultra-luxury Maybach lineup in India with the upcoming launch of the Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series on March 17, 2025.

Touted as "the sportiest Maybach ever," this exclusive convertible aims to combine the brand's legendary luxury with exhilarating performance.

The Wow Looks

The SL 680 Monogram Series makes an immediate visual impact with its sleek, sophisticated design. The front end features the signature premium Maybach grille and a plush-looking bumper adorned with numerous Maybach logos on both the bonnet and lower section. The striking red and black dual-tone paint scheme adds exclusivity, while angular, sleek LED headlights enhance its sporting character.

From the side profile, the convertible rides on impressive 21-inch alloy wheels that exude a regal presence. The exclusive soft top is emblazoned with Maybach badging throughout.

At the rear, rather than logos, the car displays elegant Maybach lettering. Sporty LED taillights complement the overall design, and chrome accents surround the diffuser for added visual flair.

The two-door sports car will be offered in two primary color options—white and red—with both featuring contrasting black elements for a distinctive appearance.

Interior Smells Money

Inside, the SL 680 departs from the sportier AMG-specific interior of the standard SL, embracing a more luxurious ambiance with abundant Maybach-specific touches on the steering wheel and upholstery. The dashboard is dominated by a large, vertically-oriented 11.9-inch infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch digital driver's display.

Living up to Maybach expectations, the cabin is feature-rich and exudes premium quality. Beyond the advanced display screens, amenities include powered seats with memory functions and multi-colored ambient lighting.

While Mercedes has yet to reveal the complete features list and customization options, the Maybach SL 680 is expected to offer numerous interior themes to suit individual tastes and preferences.

A 4-second Convertible

Performance credentials are equally impressive, with the Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 powered by a formidable 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine producing 585 PS and 800 Nm of torque. This powerplant enables the luxury convertible to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in approximately 4 seconds.

Power is channeled to all four wheels through a refined 9-speed automatic transmission, with top speed electronically limited to 259 km/h.

Befitting its Maybach badge, the suspension has been specifically tuned for comfort rather than outright sportiness. The car also features a unique exhaust system and extensive sound insulation and absorption package. These refinements ensure a more serene and comfortable driving experience compared to the more track-focused AMG SL variant.

Millionaires? Your New Toy Costs…

The Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series is expected to carry a price tag of approximately Rs 3 crore (ex-showroom). While it doesn't have an exact segment rival, its pricing positions it against other premium performance vehicles such as the Lotus Emira, Porsche 911, and Audi RS e-tron GT.

The Maybach SL 680 represents an intriguing blend of sporting capabilities and uncompromising luxury. It inherits the dynamic qualities of the AMG SL while elevating the experience with exclusive Maybach touches inside and out. This unique combination creates a distinctive proposition in the high-end automotive market—a genuine luxury sports car that doesn't sacrifice comfort for performance.
