The Mahindra Thar five-door guise is India bound by 2024 and it will come with a sunroof as well.
The company has sold over one lakh units since the launch of the Mahindra Thar and is sitting on an order book of 58,000 units. There has been a hike in demand for vehicles that come equipped with a sunroof and the trend has taken over compact SUVs and sedans alike.
The five-door Thar will have a longer wheelbase, more room in the second row, and more boot space as compared to the three-door guise. The feature list will be identical to that of the outgoing three-door variant.
At present, the Mahindra Thar comes with both petrol and diesel powertrains coupled with both manual and automatic transmission options. The 2.2-litre diesel engine makes a good 130 bhp and 300 Nm of peak torque. There is a 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 116 bhp of power the same amount of torque as the former. There is a petrol engine as well that churns out 150 bhp of power.
The feature list on the Thar includes a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, halogen headlamps with LED DRLs, steering mounted controls, ABS with EBD, hill descent control, traction control, and rear parking sensors among others.
The current Mahindra Thar starts at Rs. 10.54 lakh and the top variant is priced at Rs. 16.78 lakh. Upon launch, the five-door guise of the Mahindra Thar can be expected to be launched at a premium over the current price range.
