Mahindra is all set to introduce the eagerly awaited Thar 5-Door, which is expected to hit the market in early 2024. A sneak peek into the new SUV has recently surfaced through a YouTube video uploaded by a channel named Daniel Snare.
In this video, Australian YouTubers got an exclusive tour of Mahindra's factory in Cheyyar, Tamil Nadu, where the production of the 5 door Thar is underway. The visitors were given a close look at the manufacturing process and got to witness the off-road testing of various Mahindra SUVs, including the upcoming 5-door Thar. The video specifically showcases the dashboard layout of the extended Thar model, revealing some interesting details.
According to the footage, the new Thar will sport a two-tone color scheme on the dashboard, offering a slightly different design for the driver's instrument cluster. One notable feature is the ample space provided for the touchscreen infotainment display, hinting at the use of a larger screen. Mahindra aims to make this version more family-friendly, incorporating tweaks inside the cabin. The air conditioning vents also exhibit subtle design differences.
The alterations inside the forthcoming Thar include a more subtle color scheme, a larger touchscreen, a revised dashboard design, and other refinements, all designed to enhance the driving experience for families.
Currently, the standard Mahindra Thar provides a choice between two powerful engines: a 2.2-liter turbo diesel and a 2.0-liter turbo petrol. The diesel engine generates 130 horsepower and 320 Newton-meters of torque, while the petrol variant produces 150 horsepower and 320 Newton-meters of torque. Buyers can opt for either a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. The SUV boasts a dedicated 4x4 drivetrain, enabling it to tackle diverse terrains.
Additionally, there's a rear-wheel-drive model powered by a 1.5-liter diesel engine, delivering 120 PS and 300 Nm of torque. The Mahindra Thar's price starts at Rs 10.98 lakh for the rear-wheel-drive variant and goes up to Rs 16.94 lakh for the top-of-the-line 4x4 model, excluding showroom costs.
In summary, the new Thar 5-Door is gearing up to offer families a more refined and spacious driving experience with notable changes to its interior features while retaining the robust performance and off-road capabilities that the Thar is known for.
