Mahindra & Mahindra has again proven their strong position in India’s SUV Business, logging a total of 52,431 units in sales for May 2025, 21% year-on-year higher than May 2024 unit sales of 43,218 units, which corresponds to a 15.03% market share, and therefore the second largest original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in India.
Also, during a month in which nearly everyone's sales zeroed, Mahindra distinguished itself as the second largest by unit sales, only increasing its sales over last month by a scant 101 units.
SUV Staples: Scorpio-N, Thar, and Bolero Remain Bestsellers
Once again, the Scorpio-N was Mahindra’s best seller in May, with 14,401 units sold, which was a 5% YoY increase, although MoM numbers were down 7% from April’s 15,534 units.
The Thar, which thrives on its ruggedness, had an impressive 81% YoY increase at 10,389 units sold, compared to 5,750 units in May 2024 and a decent drop of 3% in MoM sales from April’s 10,703 units sold.
Bolero is usually a solid player in Mahindra's stable and it was the only model to report both YoY and MoM growth by selling 8,942 units - an increase of 11% on a YoY basis and 7% on a MoM basis. That shows the Bolero still has appeal in rural and semi-urban spaces.

EV Segment: XEV 9e and BE6 Off to a Strong Start
Mahindra's new electric SUVs seem to be doing well. The XEV 9e posted 2815 unit sales, which is an increase from 2441 in April and the BE6 saw tremendous MoM growth of 119% growing from 550 to 1206 unit sales.
On the flip side, the older EV offering XUV400 declined by 59% YoY with only 287 units sold and the Marazzo had the most severe decline selling just 4 units in total, suggesting an interest in the MPV.
Mahindra's wide range of SUVs alongside newly launching EV models are exploring sales even in a mixed market. With Mahindra prioritizing electric mobility and product innovation it has as good a chance as any to retain its place amongst the top automakers.
