Kia Tasman Unveiled Kias First Ever Pickup Truck Set To Challenge Toyota Hilux

Kia Tasman Unveiled: Kia’s First-Ever Pickup Truck Set to Challenge Toyota Hilux

The much-anticipated Kia Tasman has finally been unveiled, marking Kia’s first foray into the pickup truck market. Designed as a global model, the Tasman will go on sale in South Korea in the first half of 2025, with subsequent launches planned for key international markets like Australia, Africa, and the Middle East. Positioned as a direct competitor to well-established models like the Toyota Hilux and Isuzu V-Cross, the Tasman is set to bring fresh competition to the popular midsize pickup truck segment.

Exterior and Design

The Kia Tasman boasts a rugged and aggressive stance, highlighted by vertically oriented headlamps and unique C-shaped LED daytime running lights (DRLs) integrated into the body cladding above the wheel arches. A signature “tiger nose” grille gives it a family resemblance to Kia’s SUV lineup, but the Tasman stands out with a massive front bumper and robust hood, creating an imposing, utilitarian look. The rear showcases C-shaped taillights that enhance the Tasman’s broad profile and assertive design. To accommodate different utility needs, the cargo bed is offered in four configurations: Single Decker, Double Decker, Sports Bar, and Ladder Rack.

Interior and Technology

Inside, Kia has equipped the Tasman with a range of premium features to appeal to drivers seeking both practicality and comfort. The cabin includes dual 12.3-inch screens — one serving as the digital instrument cluster and the other as the infotainment touchscreen, giving it a modern tech-forward feel. For an added touch of luxury, there’s a large panoramic sunroof, and the center console includes a folding table feature. The Tasman also supports wireless charging and comes with an eight-speaker Harmon Kardon premium audio system for a high-quality in-cabin experience.

Off-Road Capabilities and Variants

Kia offers two distinct variants, the X-Line and X-Pro, both of which come with all-wheel-drive (AWD) as standard, although AWD is optional on the base model. These variants are tailored for serious off-road enthusiasts, equipped with an array of features like the complete ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) suite and an automatically engaging rear electronic locking differential on the X-Pro. The Tasman also offers three driving modes — Eco, Smart, and Sport — alongside four specialized terrain modes: Desert, Mud, Snow, and Rock.

Performance and Powertrains

The Kia Tasman is available with two powerful engine options. The 2.5-liter petrol engine delivers an impressive 277 horsepower and 421 Nm of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard. For diesel enthusiasts, there’s a 2.2-liter diesel engine offering 207 horsepower and 441 Nm of torque, which can be paired with either an eight-speed automatic or a six-speed manual gearbox.

The Tasman is set to disrupt the midsize pickup segment with its blend of power, off-road prowess, and premium features. As it gears up to go on sale, this rugged pickup from Kia aims to be a strong contender against established models like the Toyota Hilux and will be one to watch in 2025.
