Kia has been observed testing the Sonet's mid-life makeover, a sign that it may go on sale later this year.

The facelift will have a thorough visual makeover on the inside and outside, with a reveal anticipated before the end of 2023. Even though the upgraded Sonet could have a few new functions, its mechanical components won't alter from the present design. We examine the observable aspects of the updated Sonet despite the test mule's dense camouflage.

Some design elements of the updated Sonet may be seen despite the camouflage's limited visibility. The horizontal, streamlined appearance of the headlights is still there, while internal changes, including LED daytime running lights, may be made. Notably, a new drop-down feature linking to the fog light housing suggests a redesigned front bumper resembling Kia's most recent models.

There is also a bigger central air inlet with a broader mesh design. No significant modifications to the profile are anticipated, with the exception of the new dual-tone design of the 16-inch alloys. Similar to the Seltos facelift and EV variants, a vertically oriented tail lamp joined by an LED light bar can be seen in the back. Rear bumper modifications of a minor nature are also envisaged.

The Sonet makeover's inside is covered in heavy camouflage, making it difficult to see specific changes. The presence of camouflage does, however, increase the possibility of new interior trims and panels and a redesigned dashboard. The Sonet has several features, including a 10.25-inch touchscreen, heated seats, a sunroof, wireless charging, ambient lighting, and a Bose music system.

Kia has not yet announced any improvements or additional development for these features. One upgrade that is envisioned is a new digital instrument cluster that will replace the present Sonet's very basic unit and give more detailed data and bright images.

The Sonet facelift is projected to maintain its existing configuration without any alterations to its mechanical components. Kia recently upgraded the Sonet with engines that complied with RDE and E20 fuel norms; it is anticipated that these would also be present in the facelifted model. The 1.5-litre diesel engine will still produce 116 horsepower, and the two petrol engines—the 1.2-litre normally aspirated engine with 83 horsepower and the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine—will also continue to be available. All engine options for gearboxes are also probably going to stay the same.

The Sonet renovation is anticipated to maintain its configuration without altering any mechanical components. The facelifted model is expected to use the same engines that Kia recently added to the Sonet to make it compliant with RDE and E20 fuel regulations.

The two petrol engines, the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and the 1.2-litre normally aspirated engine with 83 horsepower, will also continue to be produced. 116 horsepower will continue to be produced by the 1.5-litre diesel engine. Additionally, it's probable that all available engine and gearbox configurations won't change.

Kia has slated the Sonet facelift's introduction in the Indian market for later this year, while the Seltos facelift is anticipated to debut in July. When it is released, the Sonet will face off against a number of tough competitors, including the Hyundai Venue, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, and Mahindra XUV300.
