Introducing the Honda Super-One
Honda Motor Co. debuted the near-production Honda Super-ONE, a small electric hatchback, at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show. The vehicle, which is referred to be a "tall-boy" hatchback intended for drivers, is based on the earlier Super EV idea.
According to Honda, it will be marketed as the Super-ONE in Japan (as well as several Asian and Oceania regions) and the Super-N in the UK.
Exterior and Design
In order to adhere to Japanese kei-car laws, the Super-ONE's tall-boy attitude with flared wheel arches and total compact length of less than 3.4 meters gives it a fun yet dynamic look.
The front end features circular headlamps, vertical air ducts in the front and rear bumpers for cooling and aerodynamics, and the conventional Honda emblem (instead of the stylized one found on its "0 Series" EVs).
With aggressive stylistic elements like eight-spoke black alloy wheels and a big rear spoiler, the wheel track appears broad. This distinctive position aims to blend the functionality of a compact urban model with the aesthetic appeal of a sports vehicle.
Features & Interior
Honda has continued the athletic motif inside. From the infotainment screen to the instrument cluster and air vents, the cabin is arranged horizontally.
The seats seem sporty, with blue accents in the upholstery, and the steering wheel has two spokes.
Physical buttons and knobs are still used for many tasks, which is unusual for some EVs. This could be a tribute to driver engagement rather than complete minimalism.
Driving Experience and Powertrain
Despite the lack of comprehensive technical information, Honda has disclosed a number of intriguing features:
A Boost Mode that increases the output of the electric motor over normal levels.
A 7-speed gearbox simulation to replicate the shifting sensation of a conventional combustion engine vehicle.
A somewhat outdated step in the EV era, virtual engine sounds (using an Active Sound system) are intended to improve driver engagement.
These characteristics highlight Honda's goal of making the Super-ONE enjoyable to drive in addition to being efficient.
Timeline for Launch and Markets
In 2026, Honda plans to begin production of the Super-ONE in Japan. Following its home market debut, it will be marketed under the Super-N brand in a few Asian and Oceania territories as well as the UK. Honda has not yet confirmed a launch in India.
Honda's EV strategy has taken a new turn with the Super-ONE, putting driving enjoyment ahead of size or range. It is targeted at early adopters and urban aficionados with its small, athletic style and features like Boost Mode and simulated gearbox shifts. If pricing and localization are in line, it might close the gap between larger electric crossovers and affordable city EVs if introduced in markets like India.
