Mercedes-Benz India has opened bookings for the CLA electric sedan in two variants, ahead of its official launch in mid-April 2026.
The CLA 250+ Long Range offers a WLTP-claimed range of up to 792km and charges at up to 240kW, adding 400km of range in roughly 20 minutes.
Right, here is the short version. Mercedes-Benz India opened bookings for the CLA electric sedan on March 10, 2026, the official launch follows in mid-April, and the token amount is Rs. 1.5 lakh. That is it. That is the news. Now here is why it actually matters.
The CLA arrives in two variants. The CLA 200 Standard Range is expected to come in at around Rs. 55 lakh ex-showroom. The CLA 250+ Long Range follows at approximately Rs. 59 lakh. Neither price is confirmed just yet; Mercedes-Benz will lock those in at launch, with final figures depending on forex rates at the time.
But as ballpark numbers go, they position the CLA as one of the more aggressively priced electric sedans from a German luxury brand in recent memory. Every pre-booking also includes a complimentary wall box home charger, which is a genuinely useful addition rather than the usual hollow launch perk.
The Range Numbers Are Not a Typo
The Range Figure That Stops You Mid-Scroll
The CLA 250+ Long Range claims a WLTP range of up to 792km on a single charge. The CLA 200 Standard Range, the so-called lesser option in this lineup, still manages a claimed 542km. Both figures are the kind that make you reassess what you thought was possible from an electric sedan sitting under the Rs. 60 lakh mark.
800 Volts and 20 Minutes Is All It Needs
Here is where things get properly exciting. Both variants run on an 800-volt electrical architecture, the same technology you find in cars that cost considerably more.
Hook the CLA 250+ Long Range up to a 240kW DC fast charger, and it will recover up to 400km of range in around 20 minutes. The CLA 200 Standard Range adds approximately 320km in that same time window.
For context, that is roughly the distance between Mumbai and Pune, recovered while you finish a decent cup of coffee.
Fewer Compromises Than You Would Expect
The Entry Variant Is Not an Afterthought
Mercedes-Benz has been notably sensitive about how it has separated these two variants. The CLA 200 Standard Range gets the 'Progressive Line' exterior treatment, comfort seats, a multifunction sports leather steering wheel, and a choice of two trims. It does not feel like a car that was stripped back to justify the price gap. That matters, because too many manufacturers use the base variant as a loss leader and quietly make it undesirable. Mercedes-Benz appears to have avoided that trap here.
Patience Required, But Not for Long
Deliveries of the CLA 250+ Long Range begin at the end of April 2026, almost immediately after the official launch. If you are going for the CLA 200 Standard Range, the wait stretches to June 2026. Not an eternity, but worth factoring in if timing is part of your decision.
The CLA has arrived at an interesting moment for India's premium EV market — when buyers are increasingly sophisticated, range anxiety is fading, and the competition is growing serious.
