Since the MG Comet EV emerged in India, it has responded well, particularly from customers who are mostly urban in lifestyle. It was a city car, and an SUV with identical underpinnings is currently preparing for its Indian debut.
The MG Comet Global Small Electric Vehicle (GSEV) platform-based Baojan Yep small SUV has released its feature list ahead of its global debut in China. It also has an ADAS suite, which makes it much more intriguing. After being rebadged by MG Motors, it will debut in India at a later time.
The Yep is a fairly small SUV with dimensions of 2,110mm in wheelbase, 3,381mm in length, 1,685mm in width, and 1,721mm in height. The Yep is 407mm longer, 180mm wider, 81mm higher, and has a 100mm larger wheelbase than the Comet.
The taillight assembly is positioned vertically. However, that is different from the feature that will draw your notice; rather, it is the Car Watch, an LCD panel at the back that shows personalised messages via a smartphone app. However, this capability is an add-on option available to users who want to send a customised message to other road users.
In contrast to the Comet EV, the Yep SUV has asymmetrical rear windows and massive 15-inch alloy wheels with wheel arches. It sports oval-shaped, vertically mounted tail lights at the back and an optional LCD screen on the tailgate called Car-Watch that allows consumers to customise their display.
The cabin's interior is very similar to the Comet. A three-spoke steering wheel with cruise control and media controls is included. With two 10.25-inch monitors, the dashboard is practically identical and comes standard with the Flagship entry-level trim. One of the displays serves as the instrument cluster, and the other manages media.
The Comet EV does not have a glove box; thus, it also receives that feature. Additionally, it includes four USB ports, heated front seats, an electrically adjustable driver's seat, a rearview camera, and a battery temperature control system. It also has four USB ports, heated front seats, an electrically adjustable driver's seat, heated back seats, and a battery temperature control system.
The Deluxe trim, which is the highest-specified model, also comes with ADAS technology, including adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, a 360-degree camera, and automated parking aid, among other features. Additionally, the frunk has a storage compartment with a 35-litre capacity that, depending on the settings, may keep the items hot or cold.
With the second row of seats folded down, the Yep has a maximum cargo capacity of 715 litres and an optional roof rack with a maximum load capacity of 30 kilograms. It has a single electric motor that is attached to the back axle. This motor has a peak speed of 100 kmph and can produce 68 horsepower and 140 Nm of torque. A 28.1kWh lithium-ion phosphate battery with a 303 km claimed range supplies this power.
Compared to the Comet EV, which takes just 5 hours to charge its 17.1kWh battery from 20 to 80 percent, the battery charges from 20 to 80 percent with DC fast charging in 35 minutes and AC charging in 8.5 hours.
