Hyundai Verna Or Honda City The Ultimate Mid Sized Sedan

Hyundai Verna or Honda City: The Ultimate Mid-sized Sedan

Choosing between the Hyundai Verna and Honda City? It's the ultimate showdown in the mid-sized sedan category. Both cars offer sleek designs, advanced features, and powerful performance. The Verna boasts modern styling and cutting-edge technology, while the City excels in spacious interiors and a reputation for reliability. It ultimately comes down to personal preferences, making this decision a matter of style, comfort, and driving experience. Test drives are your best bet to find the perfect fit for your needs.

Hyundai Verna

Introduction

The Indian sedan market is seeing a drop in sales due to the rise in demand for SUVs and crossovers. However, midsized sedans such as Hyundai Verna and Honda City continue to have their unique charm.

Both Hyundai Verna and Honda City have been upgraded and have become more attractive. But which of the two is winning people's hearts?

Read this comparison to know more.

Hyundai Verna Vs Honda City: Design

  • In terms of design, the Hyundai Verna gets an all-new look.

  • It gets a sleek, sporty, and refreshing design. The Honda City facelift, on the other hand, gets a mid-life update.

This means the vehicle offers updated front & rear bumpers and new alloy wheels. All in all, Honda has given the sedan subtle tweaks to give it a refreshing look.

Hyundai Verna Vs Honda City: Dimensions

  • Compared to the Honda City facelift, the 2023 Hyundai Verna boasts slightly larger dimensions, measuring 4535 mm in length and 1765 mm in width.

  • Additionally, its wheelbase has been extended to 2670 mm, providing passengers with more legroom.

  • By contrast, the 2023 Honda City has a wheelbase of 2600 mm.

  • Thanks to its increased size, the Verna also offers the most spacious boot in the segment with 528 litres of storage capacity.

Hyundai Verna Vs Honda City: Features

Hyundai Verna is a standout among midsized sedans with its Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) technology. With a forward-mounted radar and two rear-mounted radars, Verna offers superior functionality, surpassing its competitors in the category. Its radar sensors enable various level-2 ADAS features, making it the more sophisticated choice for drivers looking for advanced safety and convenience.

On the other hand, the 2023 Honda City is equipped with a camera-based mechanism that features a forward-looking IRVM-mounted camera and does not utilize a radar sensor. Although camera-based systems are reliable in typical driving situations, Verna's radar-based technology is anticipated to outperform it in harsh weather conditions such as dense fog, dust storms, smog, or darkness.

Compared to the Honda City, the latest Hyundai Verna showcases a superior range of ADAS features such as adaptive cruise control equipped with stop-and-go functionality, blind spot monitoring detection, driver attention warning, rear cross-traffic alert and avoidance, and safe exit warning. Although adaptive cruise control is available on Honda City, it can only function when the speed exceeds 30 kmph.

It should be highlighted that the latest version of the Hyundai Verna incorporates all ADAS features solely in the highest-level SX(O) trim, while Honda City presents these features in all trims excluding the base model. Moreover, in India, the Honda City facelift is the sole vehicle that offers ADAS features in both automatic and manual powertrain variants.

Hyundai Verna Vs Honda City: Specifications

Both car manufacturers have focused on an important aspect, which is the engine options available for their respective vehicles. In the case of the Hyundai Verna, customers will have the choice of two 1.5-litre petrol engines - a naturally aspirated option and a turbocharged one.

To further enhance the driving experience, Hyundai will offer manual, CVT, and DCT gearbox options with each engine. Meanwhile, Honda's City model will retain its 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, as well as the 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle hybrid petrol engine. While the latter was previously only offered in the top-spec trim, it is expected to be offered in additional variants going forward. Transmission choices for the City will include a manual gearbox and a CVT.

Conclusion

In general, both sedans provide remarkable ADAS capabilities. Hyundai Verna offers a more comprehensive set, whereas Honda City has a wider range of availability across its lineup. However, the new Hyundai Verna is a game-changer in the midsized sedan category with its advanced technology and safety features.

While both Verna and City have released new models, Hyundai Verna is recommended due to its robust engine and extensive list of features. However, if Honda expands its hybrid technology to more models and maintains a reasonable price point, either of these mid-sized sedans would be a wise choice.
