Kolkata witnessed a spectacular display of automotive history as the Eastern India Motoring Group (EIMG) and the Dalhousie Institute (DI) came together for a prestigious heritage vehicle exhibition on Sunday. This collaborative effort marked the second edition of the event, underscoring the growing appreciation for vintage automobiles in the region.
Renowned vintage car collector and restorer, Shrivardhan Kanoria, expressed his enthusiasm about the event, highlighting its significance within the vintage car community. With meticulous curation, Kanoria handpicked 65 heritage vehicles for the showcase, encompassing a diverse range of vintage cars, classic cars, and two-wheelers. Notably, the exhibition featured four exquisite Rolls Royce, including prized specimens from Kanoria's collection, one of which boasted a distinguished provenance as a former possession of the illustrious Carnegie family and a recent laureate at the Oberoi Concours.
The EIMG, established in 2020 under Kanoria's leadership, serves as a platform for heritage vehicle enthusiasts, organizing several prestigious events annually in Kolkata. In a notable development, Subhajit Kumar, a seasoned rallyist, has been appointed as the EIMG secretary, further enhancing the group's capabilities in fostering the passion for vintage automobiles.
Meanwhile, the historical significance of the Dalhousie Institute, established in 1859 to promote intellectual and scientific pursuits among its members, added a fitting backdrop to the grand showcase. The event's success was commemorated with a heartfelt thanksgiving ceremony led by Kanoria, who graciously distributed mementoes to vehicle owners and stakeholders, cementing the event's place as an annual highlight on Kolkata's cultural calendar.
The seamless execution of the event, including the venue arrangements and elegant decorations, was made possible through the hospitality extended by the Dalhousie Institute. Additionally, Kanoria's restoration unit, 'Concourz Restorations,' contributed to the event's success by sponsoring mementoes and dinner for the esteemed car owners, further enhancing the sense of camaraderie among enthusiasts.
As the curtains draw on this remarkable showcase of automotive heritage, enthusiasts and spectators alike eagerly anticipate the continuation of this annual tradition, celebrating the timeless allure of vintage vehicles in the vibrant city of Kolkata.
