Former US President Donald Trump's personal 1997 Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster has recently fetched a whopping $1.1 million (approximately Rs 9.14 crore) at a prestigious auction, surpassing the typical market value for Diablos globally. The sale took place at Barrett-Jackson's Scottsdale auction, where the Italian supercar garnered cheers from onlookers as the bidding reached seven figures.
Trump's distinct touch is evident in the customizations he chose for the Diablo VT Roadster. The car, purchased in 1997, features a unique Blu Le Main paint scheme. This particular color wasn't originally part of Lamborghini's palette for the Diablo, highlighting the exclusivity of Trump's choice. Further enhancing its individuality, Lamborghini added a special plaque to the car's door, proudly displaying "Donald Trump 1997 Diablo."
Under the hood, the one-of-a-kind Diablo is powered by a 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine, delivering an impressive 492 horsepower. It boasts a quick acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 325 km/h.
This Diablo VT Roadster has an intriguing history, having been sold by Trump himself in the summer of 2002. Subsequently, it appeared for sale on eBay in 2016, offered by a buyer who acquired it in 2005. Details about any further ownership changes since then remain undisclosed.
Despite its status as a valuable collector's item, this unique Diablo VT Roadster wasn't kept in storage. When listed on eBay in 2016, the car had already accumulated 14,655 miles. Interestingly, its subsequent owner refrained from extensive use, as evidenced by the relatively modest increase to 15,431 miles when it went under the hammer at Barrett-Jackson's auction.
Beyond its iconic ownership, the Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster stands as a testament to Trump's distinctive taste and the allure of owning a one-of-a-kind piece of automotive history. The recent auction not only showcased the exclusivity of this Diablo but also affirmed its status as a prized possession for discerning collectors willing to pay a premium for a piece of presidential automotive legacy.
