As you read, you will understand why it is crucial to deactivate your FASTag and all the different approaches that you can consider to deactivate your FASTag. You can choose the approach that is best suited for you.
FASTag: What Is It?
The toll tax collection plazas on highways often had never-ending queues. And people embarking on long journeys had to pay at every toll plaza, resulting in high spending. To address these issues and make things easy, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has made it essential for all private and commercial vehicles to have a FASTag.
FASTag is a digital form of payment through prepaid wallets. It works under the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technique. It is placed on the windshield of your vehicle. The government has ordered the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to alter all the toll lanes into FASTag lanes, for a trouble-free experience.
Deactivate FASTag: Why Is It Necessary?
A FASTag is issued based on the vehicle registration number. Only one FASTag is allocated to each vehicle registration number. If you sell your vehicle but do not deactivate the FASTag, the amount will be deducted from your wallet as the FASTag is still issued under your vehicle registration number. In turn, the new owner of your vehicle will also be unable to get a new FASTag as there is one already linked to the vehicle.
Even you will not be able to issue a FASTag for your new vehicle, as only one FASTag can be issued to your vehicle registration number. So, it is essential that you deactivate FASTag before you sell your vehicle.
