Buying an EV in March? Here’s How Long You Might Have to Wait
The Indian electric vehicle (EV) market has grown rapidly in recent years, with manufacturers expanding their lineups across different segments. While buyers now have more choices than ever, high demand and supply chain factors have resulted in varying waiting periods for EV deliveries.
If you’re planning to bring home an EV this March, waiting times range from no delay to as long as 2.5 months, depending on the model and city.
Let’s take a closer look at the waiting periods for popular EVs under ₹20 lakh across India’s top 20 cities.
Shortest Waiting Time: MG Comet EV Leads the Pack
Among all EVs listed, the MG Comet EV has the shortest average waiting period of just one month. In Chennai and Kolkata, there’s no waiting time, meaning you can drive one home immediately.
However, in Noida, Chandigarh, and Bengaluru, waiting times could extend to two months due to high demand.
Tata’s Electric Lineup: Tiago, Tigor, Punch, and Nexon EVs See Up to 2-Month Wait
Tata Motors’ Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Punch EV, and Nexon EV remain among the most popular choices in the budget and mid-range EV segments. Most buyers will have to wait around two months for delivery, especially in metro cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, and Mumbai.
However, if you’re in Pune, you’re in luck—there’s no waiting period on any Tata EVs there. In Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, and Patna, the Tiago EV has a shorter waiting time of just one month.
MG Windsor EV: Availability Varies by City
The newly launched MG Windsor EV has an average waiting time of two months in most cities. However, buyers in New Delhi, Noida, Coimbatore, and Patna may receive their cars in less than two months, thanks to better supply chains in these regions.
Mahindra XUV400 EV Faces the Longest Delays
Mahindra’s XUV400 EV has the longest waiting period among all EVs under ₹20 lakh, with delays stretching up to 2.5 months in some cities like Gurugram, Chennai, and Coimbatore.
The average waiting time remains around two months in most locations. However, buyers in Delhi and Patna can expect to receive their XUV400 EV within a month.
Plan Your EV Purchase Accordingly
With EV adoption rising, waiting periods are an important factor to consider before making a purchase. If immediate availability is a priority, the MG Comet EV and Tata EVs in Pune offer the shortest wait times. However, if you’re looking at other models, be prepared for potential delays, especially in cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Chennai.
Before booking, it’s best to check with your local dealership for exact delivery timelines as stock availability may change throughout the month.
