To further boost sales of the newly launched Tiguan R-Line, Volkswagen India has introduced a hefty 3 lakh discount, bringing down the actual price of the crossover to the near 50 lakh mark (ex-showroom).
There will be cash offers, exchange offers and corporate offers, which are taken as a part of the discount, to be offered only three months after the release of the SUV in April 2025 at a starting price of 49 lakhs.
Although the model is poised as a five-seater and performance-oriented, sales have not been good up to now.
A Tiguan with a Premium Sporty Style
Tiguan R-Line is a sports modification of one of the popular SUVs produced by Volkswagen, with R-Line cosmetic upgrades, a 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol powerhouse (201 bhp and 320 Nm), and a 7-speed DSG gearbox.
Combined with 4Motion all-wheel-drive and DCC Pro (Dynamic Chassis Control), it should be a fun car to drive about, especially since 0-100kmph takes more than 7 seconds.
However, as much as it performs and is at a higher price point, it exists in a market where more practicality (by way of seven-seater SUV and diesel-powered models) is found.
Loaded with Tech and Safety
It offers the likes of a 12.9-inch touchscreen, 10.3-inch digital cockpit, ambient light, matrix LED headlamps, and 21 assist functions, a Level 2 ADAS suite.
Other high-end features are ventilated massage seats, panoramic sunroof and aluminium pedals. It is also safety-wise equipped with nine airbags, TPMS, disc brakes on all sides, disc brakes, and EPB with self-hold.
Other features, however, that are expected at the price point are the missing things in this car, although they are not the luxury keyless entry and powered front seats, since they were frowned upon by customers.
Mixed Customer Responses and Test Drive Glimpses
There has been mixed feedback on being a user. On the one hand, people had things like impressive driving dynamics, a high-quality cabin and sporting looks of the Tiguan R-Line, and on the other hand, people complained about the rigid ride at low speeds, inadequate headroom conditions in the rear seat, and a lack of some features. Another factor that has deterred a lot of people is the high cost.
Is the Price Cut Enough to Turn Things Around?
With such a major price cut, Volkswagen is obviously shooting to increase the number of customers who have purchased the Tiguan R-Line, as a more affordable model. This SUV has now advanced to be a more attractive choice among driving enthusiasts whose values lie in the build quality, all-wheel drive, and sporty performance in a five-seater configuration. It is yet to be seen whether it will help VW turn things around in India.
