Volkswagen T-Roc 2nd Gen. Debuts with Hybrid Engine & New Design.

The second-generation T-Roc will be Volkswagen's first model to use an all-new strong-hybrid powertrain, which has been confirmed. Owing to be revealed at the Munich Motor Show, the SUV will also share the MQB Evo platform with the Tiguan and is projected to dictate the future models, such as the Golf and Tiguan hybrids.

Volkswagen is ramping up a large-scale worldwide debut at the forthcoming Munich Motor Show with a second-generation T-Roc SUV. The new strong-hybrid powertrain will be the first-ever of its kind in the brand, in an attempt to fill the path between the conventional combustion engines to VW's all-electric future.

Original Strong-Hybrid of VW

The new T-Roc will introduce a brand new hybrid system that is able to drive on gas power, electric or a combination of the two, depending on the conditions of the road that it is pulling.

Interestingly, Volkswagen has not employed this kind of system in any production car. Although the company is highly invested in electrification, it has not ignored hybrid power technology, whose popularity in markets such as South America, China, and the US continues to rise as full BEVs have not been as fast.

Volkswagen Passenger Cars CEO Thomas Schafer cited regional demand as driving this hybrid effort, saying, "HEV is also a big topic in the US in particular.”

Broader Hybrid Strategy

The new hybrid is not T-Roc-only. This will also be rolled out to the Golf and the Tiguan in the next two years, making this a strong product in the lineup of hybrid models of VW across segments.

Together with the hybrid model, the T-Roc will also be sold with conventional petrol and diesel engines, markets permitting.

New Design and Styling

Spied pictures released earlier this year show the second-gen T-Roc will be much more aggressive in design. Notable are a huge new grill, smaller headlights, more raked A- and C-pillars, and oversized aero-type alloy wheels.

It shares its looks closely with the bigger Tiguan sibling and thus has a much premium look on it with an added compact SUV status.

What to Expect at this Year Munich Motor Show

Featuring its MQB Evo platform, all-new styling, and innovative hybrid powertrain, the new Volkswagen T-Roc is another critical move in VW's global business model. The Munich launch will not only be the tone setter of the T-Roc but also of the Volkswagen in general as its plans to go full electric in Europe in the future.
