Toyota Camry 2024: A Premium Hybrid Sedan
Toyota has unveiled the ninth-generation Camry in India at an ex-showroom price of ₹48 lakh, making it ₹1.83 lakh pricier than its predecessor. The new Camry, a staple in the premium sedan market, boasts a refined petrol-hybrid powertrain, cutting-edge technology, and safety features. Toyota has confirmed that deliveries will begin immediately, offering customers a luxurious yet eco-friendly option.
Competitive Pricing and Rivals
Despite the price hike, the new Camry remains a more economical choice than its closest rival, the Skoda Superb, priced at ₹54 lakh. Additionally, it positions itself as a value-for-money alternative to premium luxury sedans such as the Audi A4, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine, which start from ₹46.02 lakh, ₹54.40 lakh, and ₹60.60 lakh, respectively.
Striking Design and Platform
Built on Toyota’s TNGA-K platform, the Camry sports a bold exterior with the brand’s “hammerhead” styling. Highlights include sharp LED headlamps, a sleek grille, and a redesigned front bumper reminiscent of Lexus’ luxury design cues. The side profile is accentuated by a bold character line and new 18-inch alloy wheels, while C-shaped LED taillights add a modern touch.
The Camry is available in six attractive colors: Precious Metal, Dark Blue, Cement Grey, Emotional Red, Attitude Black, and Platinum White Pearl.
Luxurious Interiors and Advanced Features
The interior features a revamped dashboard with dual 12.3-inch displays—one for infotainment, offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the other a fully digital instrument cluster. Comfort is paramount, with reclining rear seats, ventilated 10-way powered front seats, three-zone climate control, and a sunroof with a retractable sunshade.
The infotainment system is paired with a nine-speaker JBL sound system, while other premium touches include a 10-inch head-up display and digital key functionality.
Enhanced Safety with ADAS and More
Toyota’s Safety Sense 3.0 suite, its advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), comes as standard. Key features include pre-collision assist, radar cruise control, lane-tracing assist, road-sign assist, and automatic high beams. The Camry also includes nine airbags, parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera for optimal safety.
Updated Engine and Hybrid Tech
Powering the Camry is a 2.5-liter petrol engine coupled with Toyota’s fifth-generation Hybrid System (THS 5), delivering a combined output of 230hp, 12hp more than the previous model. With an improved fuel efficiency of 25.49 km/l (ARAI-rated), the Camry strikes a balance between power and sustainability. The car also comes with an 8-year/1.6 lakh km warranty on its hybrid battery.
Assembled at Toyota’s Bidadi plant in Karnataka via the CKD route, the Camry reaffirms its legacy as a premium sedan that blends luxury, innovation, and eco-consciousness.
