Honda Elevate-Based BEV: India’s First Look at Honda’s Electric Future

Honda is gearing up to make a bold move into the electric vehicle (EV) space in India with an SUV based on the Elevate platform. This yet-to-be-named EV, set to debut between 2026 and 2027, marks a milestone as India becomes the first market to launch the vehicle, signaling Honda’s commitment to localization and the country’s growing EV potential.

Honda’s Answer to the Growing EV Market

The upcoming Elevate-based EV will position itself in a competitive segment, challenging the likes of:

  • Maruti e-Vitara

  • Hyundai Creta EV

  • Kia Carens EV

  • Next-gen MG ZS EV

  • Tata Curvv EV

  • Mahindra BE 6

  • Toyota Urban SUV (production version)

Priced between ₹20 lakh to ₹26 lakh, this electric SUV will cater to a burgeoning market segment. Honda is opting for a battery electric vehicle (BEV) over hybrid options, deliberately skipping hybrid technology for the regular Elevate SUV.

A Calculated Move

Honda’s approach to India’s EV market is cautious but strategic. Like Skoda, the company is waiting for clear regulations on CAFE 3 norms and government policies on BEV and hybrid taxation. This calculated strategy focuses on developing robust product offerings to capture market share, rather than taking unnecessary risks as an early pioneer.

What to Expect from the Elevate-Based BEV

While Honda remains tight-lipped about specific details, here’s what we can anticipate based on industry insights:

  • Impressive Range: A battery pack of 60+kWh, offering a range of 500km to 600km, ideal for both urban commutes and long drives.

  • Feature-Rich Interior: Borrowing heavily from the Elevate’s anticipated facelift, expect features such as:

  • Level-2 ADAS

  • Rear AC vents with climate control

  • Powered front seats

  • Connected car technology

  • Panoramic sunroof

  • Digital infotainment and instrument screens

The Elevate-based BEV is designed to meet the rising expectations of Indian consumers for technology-packed and sustainable vehicles.
