Tesla Model Y: India Drive review and first impressions

Tesla has finally made its long anticipated entry into India with its most popular Model Y. The car was driven around the hot roads of Mumbai to have a first-hand experience of its design, handling, luxury technology-loaded interior, and dynamics in Indian traffic.

In India, Tesla has finally started to play their innings, and the first one on the field is Model Y, which is currently the most popular Tesla in the world. The car was seen driving along with the Tesla Experience Centre in BKC Mumbai to Marine Drive in a short trip, but gained a proper picture of how the Model X performs in Indian conditions.

Distinguished Design- Discreet and Impressive

As compared to most of the luxurious SUVs, which have humongous grilles as well as fierce creases, the Tesla Model Y adopts a less raging strategy. It is different because of its smooth aerodynamic form, its sloping roofline, and its flush door handles. Its styling is not something that shouts luxury, but it does garner a lot of attention, mostly due to the novelty of its silhouette on Indian roads.

Its futuristic nature is further enhanced by the all-glass panoramic roof that helps lighten the already spacious interior and expose the driver to much more of the surrounding natural light.

This interior is minimalist, but high-tech

On the inside, there is a totally button-free dashboard that gives itself to a huge touchscreen. One has to get used to it, especially by those used to the traditional physical controls.

The interface is however, very smooth, user-friendly and extremely fast. On this single screen, you can control everythin,g including maps, climate settings, as well as steering feel.

That said, the lack of a traditional instrument cluster might not be for everyone.

Drive Experience: Smooth, Fast — But Firm

That drive itself was fine. Model Y has the instant torque that gives rapid acceleration with almost no sound. It can go through traffic in the city with ease due to good visibility and a light steer-by-wire system.

Nevertheless, the ride is too firm compared to its rivals and the flaws on Mumbai roads, such as potholes and expansion joints, are experienced more vividly than those on some other EVs at the same price tag.

Conclusion

The Model Y is not a conventional luxury car, but it does carry with it the one thing that is most trademarked to Tesla: smooth design, cutting-edge technology, and good performance.
