Second-Gen Honda Amaze Limited to single S variant

Honda has now slimmed down its second-gen Amaze line-up to a single variant the mid-spec S trim, which comes with either a manual or a CVT box. The sedan is squarely aimed at fleet and entry-level car buyers, so Honda has retained its sales, especially now that the third-generation Amaze is available. The car is on sale at a price tag of Rs 7.62 lakh (ex-showroom).

Honda Cars India has now formally cut the second-gen Amaze into one trim, the midspec S trim only. This step is because the firm is still selling the previous generation model and selling it together with the all-new third generation Amaze, as Honda did earlier in the case of the City sedan.

It offers the S variant that can be ordered with either a five-speed manual transmission (MT) or in the continuously variable transmission (CVT) trim; the number of items in the lineup is reduced, but some way of choice on the part of the purchasers is preserved. The price of the car is 7.62 lakhs ex-showroom.

Features and Equipment

Despite being a mid-spec trim, the Amaze S packs in a practical list of features, including:

  • Instrument cluster with colour MID

  • Chrome dashboard inserts

  • Beige upholstery

  • 2-DIN infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity

  • Four speakers

  • Power windows and mirrors

  • Height-adjustable driver’s seat

The sedan also has four colour options available to offer the customers a degree of customisation of the car on the outside.

Engine/ Transmission Choices

The second-gen Amaze S retains Honda's tried-and-true 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol unit that makes 88bhp and 110Nm of torque. Both the five-speed manual and the CVT automatic are offered to buyers and both are driven with ease and efficiency on both city roads and the highway.

The question now is why two generations together?

The strategy Honda used to sell the second-gen Amaze simultaneously with a new car seems to follow the plan used by the company with the City sedan in the past. The strategy will enable Honda to achieve a broader price range so that it can satisfy customers interested in a remarkably and cheaper model, and those interested in a luxury and reasonably priced sedan who are in the fleet market.

Conclusion

By pruning down the second-gen Amaze to the S variant only, Honda seems to also be downsizing itself, although retaining a presence in the more affordable sedan segment. The Amaze S remains a worthy competitor to the buyers who are considering such factors like practicality, reliability and variant options when it comes to transmission, all at a competitive price.
