Renault Duster 4×4 Hybrid Set for Global Debut in 2025

Dacia's CEO has confirmed that the new Renault Duster 4×4 Hybrid, equipped with an electric motor on the rear axle and an LPG option, is slated for a global release in 2025. This model aims to offer enhanced performance while maintaining affordability.

Dacia, known for producing cost-effective vehicles, is set to enhance its lineup with the introduction of the Renault Duster 4×4 Hybrid.

As confirmed by CEO Denis Le Vot, this model will feature an electric motor mounted on the rear axle, providing an all-wheel-drive (AWD) experience through a hybrid system.

This approach is designed to improve performance and traction without significantly increasing costs.

Technical Specifications and Features

The Duster 4×4 Hybrid will combine an internal combustion engine (ICE) with an electric motor on the rear axle.

This setup allows for automatic engagement of the AWD system, enhancing traction in various driving conditions, such as slippery roads or off-road terrains. The integration of an electric rear axle simplifies the drivetrain and ensures efficient torque distribution.

Additionally, Dacia plans to offer an LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) option for this model, catering to markets where LPG is a popular and cost-effective fuel choice.

Comparison with Existing Hybrid AWD Systems

While hybrid AWD systems are present in models from brands like Toyota, Volvo, and BMW, Dacia's implementation focuses on simplicity and affordability.

For instance, the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid uses a rear electric motor that engages at speeds below 24 km/h, with the system determining AWD application based on driving conditions.

Dacia's system is expected to function similarly, providing AWD when necessary to enhance stability and performance.

Global Launch and Availability

The Renault Duster 4×4 Hybrid is scheduled for a global debut in 2025. Dacia aims to make AWD technology more accessible to a broader customer base by focusing on cost-effective engineering solutions.

This model is anticipated to appeal to consumers seeking the versatility of an AWD system without the premium price tag typically associated with such features.

Prospects for the Indian Market

In India, the launch of the third-generation Renault Duster has been postponed to 2026. The first-generation Duster in India included an AWD variant introduced in 2014, equipped with a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine delivering 108 bhp and 245 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.

The upcoming Duster 4×4 Hybrid is expected to feature an automatic transmission and improved performance metrics. Given the growing interest in SUVs and hybrid vehicles in India, the Duster 4×4 Hybrid could attract consumers seeking a blend of efficiency, performance, and versatility.

In conclusion, Dacia's confirmation of the Renault Duster 4×4 Hybrid underscores the brand's commitment to innovation within an affordable framework.

By integrating an electric rear axle and offering an LPG option, the upcoming Duster variant is poised to deliver enhanced performance and adaptability across diverse markets.

As the automotive industry continues to evolve towards hybrid and electric solutions, Dacia's approach may set a precedent for accessible AWD technology in the compact SUV segment.
