Now The Ambit Of E Challan Is To Be Expanded To 44 New Spots

Now, the Ambit of E-Challan is to be Expanded to 44 New Spots

Traffic rule offenders in Ludhiana might have been evading detection, but this will soon be a thing of the past. The 'third eye network' of the Police Commissionerate has been strengthened, ensuring no mercy for traffic violators. High-resolution cameras are being installed on city roads to capture offenders and their violations. Once the address of the violator is extracted from the vehicle registration number, a challan will be sent to their house via speed post.

Currently, three to four e-challan points are operational in the city. However, the Commissioner has decided to expand the ambit of the e-challan to 44 new points, mainly at busy intersections with high vehicle density and frequent violations. This expansion aims to decrease road accidents, as Ludhiana has a high rate of daily road mishaps, and to prevent traffic chaos at busy intersections by deterring commuters from committing traffic offenses.

High-Resolution Cameras and Smart City Project

ADCP (Traffic) Gurpreet Purewal revealed that the Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana, is installing cameras under the Smart City project. These high-resolution cameras will serve as a deterrent to traffic offenders by covering all four directions at selected points. The project will be completed in phases, with 18 points covered in the first phase. Cameras have already been installed at four places, and all 18 points will be operational within a week or two, allowing e-challans to start reaching offenders' homes.

E-Challan Process and Enforcement

The cameras will be connected to the Police Control Room (PCR). Upon detecting a violation, the PCR will alert traffic police officials to initiate e-challan proceedings. The challan will include a payment link for fine settlement. If an offender ignores the e-challan despite receiving it via speed post or notification through SMS or other communication mediums, the traffic police will inform the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), who may summon the offender to court.

Initial Coverage Points

Under the first phase, the following 18 points in Ludhiana will be covered:

  1. Jagraon Bridge

  2. Durga Mata Mandir

  3. Bhaiwala Chowk

  4. Kaka Marriage Palace

  5. Dana Mandi Chowk

  6. Janta Nagar

  7. Vardhman

  8. Police Colony Jamalpur

  9. Veer Palace

  10. Jamalpur Chowk

  11. Dholewal Chowk

  12. Pahwa Chowk

  13. Mall Road

  14. Hero Bakery Chowk

  15. Saggu Chowk

  16. Mint Gumri Chowk, Ferozepur Road

  17. Lodhi Club Road Chowk

This initiative is expected to significantly improve road safety and traffic order in Ludhiana by ensuring that traffic violations are promptly detected and penalized.
